Paul Simon was supposed to perform “Bridge Over Troubled Water” at the World Trade Center site today. He did “Sound of Silence” instead. The only thing missing from this solemn moment was Art Garfunkel. NPR’s Margot Adler called it “perhaps the most moving moment of the ceremony.”

During this morning’s memorial service, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani reads from the Holy Bible, book of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. 1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6...

Never forget, ten years later

Sept11_02

Ten years after the horrific terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, many people just want to pretend it never happened. To them, it just wasn’t that big of a deal, and America needs to “get over it.” To me, there’s no getting over this. I cannot simply put these images out of my head and pretend they never happend. I will not forget my fellow countrymen who died that day. I will not forget those who ran into the towers and sacrificed their own lives to rescue complete strangers.   And I will never forget the maniacs who celebrated the deaths of innocent Americans at the hands of murderous jihadists.

Former President George W. Bush gave an excellent speech today in Shanksville, Pennsylvania for the 10 year anniversary of 9-11, honoring the heroic passengers and crew of Flight 93 whose courage foiled the plans of jihadist murderers. Some highlights from Bush’s speech:  (more to come when I can find a transcript) 9/11 was “the most lives lost on American soil on a single day since the Battle of Antietam.” “One of the lessons of 9-11 is that evil is real and so is courage.” “At the moment American democracy was under attack our citizens defied their captors by holding a vote. The choice they made would cost them their lives. And they knew it. Many passengers called their loved...

9/11: ten years later — rebuilding the World Trade Center

Posted 10 Sep 2011 in 9/11, victory
Fuck you, Islamists! We're rebuilding it!

On the 10-year anniversary of the cowardly terrorist attacks of September 11th, I can think of no better way to honor the 2,996 Americans we lost on that horrible day than to stick our collective middle fingers up at the Islamists and rebuild the World Trade Center at Ground Zero. After 10 years—and many setbacks—a magnificent American landmark is rising at ground zero I am standing in the past and looking up to watch our country’s hopes soar again. It’s late July, and I’m in lower Manhattan with Chris Ward, the Port Authority executive overseeing the rebuilding efforts at ground zero. We’ve paused in front of the beautiful granite reflecting pools that have been constructed in the footprints of the original...

Loose Credits: Was the Death Star destruction an inside job?

As we get nearer to the 10-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, we’re certain to hear a fresh batch of crazy from the lunatics who still believe (against all evidence to the contrary) that the destruction of the World Trade Center towers was “an inside job.” Given how ludicrous that is, enjoy this parody of the 9/11 conspiracy film, Loose Change: In this satire, Loose Credits purports to “uncover the truth behind the destruction of the Death Star and help expose the lies and deceptions.” — Cross-posted at Left Coast Rebel

President Obama injured during 9/11 memorial service

Posted 05 May 2011 in 2012 election, 9/11, Barack Obama

Although he didn’t require medical attention, I think the President might have hurt his arm from patting himself on the back today. Solemnly honoring victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, President Barack Obama hugged survivors, thanked the heroes of one of the nation’s darkest days and declared Thursday that the killing of Osama bin Laden after all these years was an American message to the world: “When we say we will never forget, we mean what we say.” For Obama, the day was about the importance of being in New York in the aftermath of the successful raid to find and kill bin Laden, the al-Qaida leader. Obama addressed families who have watched and wondered for nearly...

Osama unarmed when killed? So what?

Posted 04 May 2011 in 9/11, Osama bin Laden, victory

To liberals who are now complaining that Osama bin Laden might have been unarmed when SEAL Team Six provided him with cranial ventilation, please remember that the 2,752 people who died at Ground Zero were also unarmed when they were killed by Bin Laden’s terrorist henchmen in the cowardly 9/11 attacks.

‘Emir’ bin Laden ran al Qaeda from his compound in Pakistan

Since the Obama White House can’t seem to get their facts straight regarding the details of the Bin Laden assassination, this story may also be subject to revision in the next couple days. But one thing is for sure: Osama bin Laden is currently overseeing al Qaeda from the pit of hell. The covert operation that killed Osama bin Laden produced new evidence that the “emir” of al Qaeda actively commanded the terror group’s affiliates in Yemen, Somalia and other parts of North Africa and was not just an inspirational leader. Materials found in bin Laden’s compound include hard drives, thumb drives and a dedicated fiber-optic cable used for point-to-point access to the Internet, according to two U.S. officials...

PHOTO: Osama bin Laden’s corpse [Updated]

UPDATE: LiveLeak has declared this photo to be a fake, based on an image from the movie Black Hawk Down. UPDATE 5/04: President Obama has now refused to release the photos of Osama bin Laden’s dead body, for fear of offending delicate Muslim sensibilities. “It is important to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence or as a propaganda tool,” said the president. “We don’t trot out this stuff as trophies,” Mr. Obama added. “The fact of the matter is, this is somebody who was deserving of the justice that he received.” When he announced Bin Laden’s death, President Obama told us...
