Since Dear Leader can’t run on his three years of failed policies and the resulting economic malaise, what can he do to trick Hispanics back into the Democrat camp? King Obama will bypass Congress by enacting the DREAM Act through executive fiat, granting amnesty for illegal immigrants.

The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies.

The policy change, described to The Associated Press by two senior administration officials, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It also bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who have attended college or served in the military.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was to announce the new policy Friday, one week before President Barack Obama plans to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials’ annual conference in Orlando, Fla. Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak to the group on Thursday.

Obama planned to discuss the new policy Friday afternoon from the White House Rose Garden.
illegal immigrants from Mexico crossing America's borderUnder the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be immune from deportation if they were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a GED, or served in the military. They also can apply for a work permit that will be good for two years with no limits on how many times it can be renewed. The officials who described the plan spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss it in advance of the official announcement.

Not only is this a blatantly lawless act by our President, it is clearly designed as a cynical ploy to buy votes after months of tyrannical policies on contraception which have alienated many Hispanics in the Catholic Church. Obama issues a decree allowing 800,000 illegal immigrants to defy U.S. law = 800,000 votes for Obama. And when the wives, children, elderly parents, siblings, cousins, etc. of these pardoned illegals all get waivers to stay, Obama can count on millions of their votes, as well. se puede!

Look for this idiotic policy to result in a HUGE spike of illegal immigration, similar to what happened after Ronald Reagan’s disastrous Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

For the first six months after the amnesty there was a modest fall in illegal immigration, but within 12 months illegal immigration was breaking all previous records, rising to 800,000 per year. Friends and relatives of the newly legalized immigrants began to pour into the United States. They were followed by more illegal job seekers who saw continued opportunities for more amnesties. In fact, the 1986 amnesty resulted in six more amnesties from 1994 to 2000, awarding legal status to another 3.0 million illegal immigrants. By 1997, the number of illegal immigrants in the country was already back up to the 5.0 million in the U.S. before the 1986 amnesty. Amnesty has proved to be a slippery slope. Amnesties beget more amnesties and more illegal immigrants. Can you imagine the consequences of amnesty for the 11 million or more illegals now in the United States?

(For more on that catastrophic policy, read  Two Sides of the Same Coin: The Connection Between Legal and Illegal Immigration) When Mexicans hear that their children won’t be deported, why wouldn’t they pay some human trafficker to make sure their child illegally enters the United States for free healthcare and education at taxpayer expense? A look back at the results of amnesty programs shows that amnesty leads to more illegal immigration, and it’s extremely irresponsible for Obama to do this in an election year for the purpose of buying votes.

Today’s unilateral announcement flies in the face of what Obama said last year about the DREAM Act.

“I just have to continue to say this notion that somehow I can just change the laws unilaterally is just not true. We are doing everything we can administratively. But the fact of the matter is there are laws on the books that I have to enforce. And I think there’s been a great disservice done to the cause of getting the DREAM Act passed and getting comprehensive immigration passed by perpetrating the notion that somehow, by myself, I can go and do these things. It’s just not true.” September 20, 2011

But now, it’s an election year. The DREAM Act was defeated in 2009, even though Democrats held a supermajority. And the President is getting desperate for votes. So screw Congress and screw the U.S. Constitution, it’s time for King Obama to change America’s immigration laws unilaterally.

Like Jim Geraghty says, “All statements from Barack Obama come with an expiration date. All of them.”

Sí, se Pravda

In a competitive bid to unseat Newsweek as the official propaganda arm of the Obama administration, TIME Magazine has already announced next week’s cover which just so happens to support Obama’s newest election stunt. Surely the White House didn’t work hand-in-hand with TIME for propaganda purposes, this is all just a huuuuge coincidence, right?

Obama clearly doesn’t care that he is violating his oath of office by refusing to enforce U.S. immigration law. He doesn’t care that he is illegally bypassing Congress with this imperial fiat. He doesn’t care that his amnesty-for-votes scheme is a slap in the face to every immigrant who came here legally and followed the rules to become a U.S. citizen. Nor does he care what this irresponsible order will do to our nation, as the exploding population of illegal immigrants places an ever-increasing burden upon the taxpayers to fund America’s entitlement programs. As long as it nets Obama four more years to continue “fundamentally transforming America” into a clone of European socialism, all bets are off.

UPDATE: Daniel Horowitz at Red State makes some excellent points about Obama’s latest unconstitutional effort in his article, “Obama Seeks to Nullify our Immigration Laws.”

King Barack Hussein Kardashian Obama thinks that he gets to invent laws where they don’t exists and disregard the ones that are already on the books. [emphasis added —FMP]

In yet another demonstration of contempt for the rule of law and the separation of powers, the Obama administration has announced that it will no longer enforce our immigration laws (not that he’s been enforcing them until now).  The Washington Times broke the story this morning about a secret memo from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that establishes new policies advising agents to release some illegals caught crossing the border.  The new policy will encourage agents to suspend deportation proceedings and grant amnesty to those who ostensibly fit the criteria of the Dream Act – a bill that was defeated with overwhelming bipartisan support of Congress.  Hence, the administration is publicly declaring that federal agents will ensure our laws are not executed faithfully. […]

There’s one problem: we have a legislative body that passes laws, not a president or a king.  The Senate defeated the DREAM Act in 2009, even though Democrats had a supermajority.

What happened to the Constitution?

The real question here is that if the president is above the law, then why should any of us be compelled to adhere to laws that we regard as imprudent or unfair?
