Obama’s 2012 State of the Union will map out election-year “energy agenda”
This year’s State of the Union circus sounds like it’ll be a spirited defense of the Obama status quo: more unemployment, more dependence on foreign oil, and billions more wasted on “green energy” boondoggles for Obama donors like Solyndra. Via The Hill:
President Obama will unveil his election-year energy agenda Tuesday night in his State of the Union address.
In a video message sent to supporters Saturday, Obama said the speech will lay out an economic platform that includes “American energy, fueled by homegrown and alternative energy sources.”
Obama is also likely to tout achievements such as the increase in auto mileage standards and federal support for clean energy projects as he makes his case for reelection.
The real mystery is whether the president will map out major new energy proposals or simply offer a robust defense — and maybe repackaging — of existing policies.
Obviously, Obama’s “new energy proposals” don’t include anything that would actually work, like the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline he recently rejected. Dear Leader has been claiming that he denied approval of the Keystone pipeline because those wascally Wepubwicans imposed an ‘arbitrary’ deadline, but that lame excuse overlooks the fact that the pipeline has been under consideration for THREE YEARS.
For three years, the State Department has been reviewing the initial proposal to run a pipeline from Canada down to Texas through a sensitive Nebraska aquifer — authority it has because of the transnational path the route takes. The pipeline had been through several other federal, state and local approvals, but the department backed away from signing off on the plan last year after environmentalists and local lawmakers complained.
Industry workers and Republicans contend the project would create thousands of jobs, and Canada’s prime minister has warned if the U.S. can’t get on board, the North American nation will look to team with China.
Obama likes to use his “We Can’t Wait” slogan as a political bludgeon to get his way when he can’t do so through within the Constitutional limits on the Executive branch. But he’s perfectly happy to wait on TransCanada’s $7 billion shovel-ready project in order to placate his rabid environmentalist voter base.
Keystone XL has been planned for years and only became a political issue after the well-to-do environmental lobby decided to make it a station of the green cross. TransCanada filed its application in 2008, and State determined in 2010 and then again last year that the project would have “no significant impacts” on the environment, following exhaustive studies. The Environmental Protection Agency chose to intervene anyway, and the political left began to issue ultimatums and demonstrate in front of the White House, so President Obama decided to defer a final decision until after the election.
The only thing our Emperor really can’t wait to do is get reelected. He’s pretty eager to turn up his nose at increasing America’s domestic oil production and kill off the possibility of 20,000 new jobs for Americans.
Now, because of Obama’s obstinate partisanship, China will be getting the oil that was intended for America. And we’ll have to keep looking to the Middle East for our oil, or to the Chinese who will doubtless be more than happy to sell back to us the oil that should have been ours in the first place.

BONUS FACT: Speaking of blatant partisanship, when Obama delivers his State of the Union tapdance tomorrow it will have been 1,000 days without a budget from Senate Democrats. Think he’ll call them out to do their jobs? Don’t hold your breath. Party over country, baby!
“Senate Democrats abandoned their official duty to prioritize Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars and tackle our nation’s most pressing economic challenges — dealing a painful blow to fiscal progress that may be felt for some time,” said Sen. Jeff Sessions and Rep. Paul Ryan, ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee and the Chairman of the House Budget Committee, respectively, in a joint statement released Monday on the subject of the 1,000th day.
“This,” the two continued, “contrasts sharply with the record of the House Republicans.”
The last time the Senate passed a budget was April 29, 2009. Senate Budget Committee Republican staff points out that the Senate could have passed a budget without fear of a filibuster, as Senate rules prohibit that action when dealing with a budget.
The joint statement paints this fact as a failure by the Democratic side to deal with the economic challenges facing the economy.
“If the president wishes to begin a genuine dialogue with the American people in tomorrow’s State of the Union address, then he must hold his own party accountable for its dogged refusal to produce a plan to prevent this crisis and lift this cloud of uncertainty from the economy,” Ryan and Sessions wrote. “The president must also deliver what he has so far refused: Serious reforms to change our debt course and prevent fiscal disaster.”
