Occupy Dallas leaves a mess
The Occupy movement in Dallas was just as pathetic as the OWS movement in Zuccotti Park, just smaller. And when forced to vacate the property on which they were camping, they left a predictable mess.
Police have safely evicted all protesters at the Occupy Dallas campsite in a sweep that led to 18 arrests.
The City of Dallas will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. to discuss the dismantling of the protest site.
Shortly after midnight Thursday, officers cleared people from the site near City Hall, a day after Dallas leaders told demonstrators they could stay if they obeyed all laws.
Nobody was hurt. Some tents and scattered personal belongings were left behind.
Police had made several announcements, via loud speakers, advising the 40 or so protesters to leave.
City officials last week warned protesters to abide by all laws and stick to an Oct. 17 agreement that allowed the campsite on public property.
Concerns were raised over trespassing arrests and the safety of children at the site. A federal judge Tuesday refused to issue an order that would have blocked removal of the campsite.
Apologists for the Occupy movement claim that they had no time to clean up since they were forced to leave in the middle of the night. But that excuse holds no water: these whiners protesters have known for days that they might have to move.
Although they haven’t been quite as violent as Occupiers in other cities, their squalid living conditions and hazardous behavior led to their ejection.
The city released a list of 11 violations of the settlement agreement between protesters and municipal delegates, including weapons violations, public urination, trash pileup, and fuel storage.
Also, a dozen police arrestss are detailed from Oct. 24 to Nov. 13, with transgressions ranging from aggravated assault to public urination to public intoxication and drug possession.
Some high-profile police visits have already been reported, including a protester arrested for sexual assault of a minor, and CPS seizing two children because of concerns for their safety.
Things like this make laughable the Left’s claims of being “green” and ”environmentally responsible.”
