Nobody expects the AttackWatch! [UPDATED: Attaaaaaack Waaaaaatch video spoof]

First, candidate Barack Obama spiked his followers’ Kool-Aid during the 2008 campaign with a website called Fight the Smears.

Next, President Obama launched a flag@whitehouse.gov campaign in 2009 to get his supporters to snitch on people who spoke out against Obamacare.

Now they’re bringing back a new version of their Leftist Thought Police. This time, they’re calling it AttackWatch, and it’s designed to root out anyone who criticizes Dear Leader.

It’s not easy being an Obama for America volunteer, especially when you feel ill-equipped to respond to the waves of attacks from his critics, says Jennifer Kickliter, a Tennessee college student who’s signed up for the 2012 campaign.

“What do I tell people who point out that the Affordable Care Act isn’t helping people, and that the  ”don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal was accompanied by a court order Obama plans to fight?” she said in July during an online chat with several Obama campaign aides at Chicago headquarters.

“It’s great to say ‘talk about his accomplishments,’ but we need to be able to address people’s legitimate concerns, too,” she said.

Now, Kickliter, and other Obama supporters like her, could get some help in the new campaign-sponsored website AttackWatch.com.

Obama for America national field director Jeremy Bird said the site offers “new resources to fight back,” including policy issue pages that fact check statements by Obama’s Republican opponents with links to “evidence” to back them up.   Its slogan is “Get the facts. Fight the smears.”

According to the site, Obama volunteers can also help campaign headquarters keep track of attacks on the president by submitting “reports” via mailform and tweeting about them using the Twitter hashtag #attackwatch.

Wait, they’ve launched a Twitter hashtag for tattling on Obama’s opponents? This is going to be too much fun! Here’s a sampling of the hashtag’s tweetstream:

  • Hey #attackwatch, I saw 6 ATM’s in an alley, killing a Job. It looked like a hate crime!
  • Drawing a blank here…. What do you call a leader who encourages people to inform on neighbors, co-workers… Don’t tell me… #attackwatch
  • #AttackWatch : I turned in my sister, but never got my t-shirt. Please advise.
  • #AttackWatch I want to report that the Debt Star has been attacked by the Rebel Hobbits
  • Hey #attackwatch Redbox killed Block Buster jobs. Shhh, don’t tell the Atms they may put out more. ;-)
  • Really? #attackwatch wants me to to report my friends & neighbors? For having an opinion? Really? This is what democracy looks like?
  • Dear #AttackWatch People keeping saying Obama isn’t the Messiah. Can you correct this glaring error?

Clearly, Obama is becoming as paranoid as he is desperate. Even ABC News notes the further disintegration of Teh Won’s civility.

“What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon — that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge but enemies to demonize,” Obama said in 2008, words that were posted atop FightTheSmears.com.

That quote and a similar pledge are absent from this latest incarnation of a truth-seeking website. Perhaps it’s a sign of what’s to come.

What’s to come? Clearly, ABC hasn’t been paying attention. Obama has been engaging in this behavior ever since his 2008 campaign. This is just his latest attempt to compile an enemies list, “get in their faces,” and “punch back twice as hard.”

That was a good one! I wasn’t sure whether or not I should publish Twitter users’ handles with their tweets. I may edit the post to include them.
