This morning, Anwar al-Awlaki abruptly imitated the consistency of chunky salsa after a careful applications of  Hellfire missiles. Senior Al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki and another America-born militant were killed in Yemen early Friday morning by a CIA-led U.S. drone strike, marking the highest-profile takedown of terror leaders since the raid on Usama bin Laden’s compound. No doubt they intend to use this to mobilize the OFA-MoveOn-Kos armies around various election issues next year, to demonstrate how “popular” the Administration’s positions are. Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by 39 brave men on September 17, 1787. In my 9th grade Civics class, our teacher was surprised that nearly every single student in the class knew the Preamble to the Constitution. What was more unusual than the high rate of awareness of one of America’s founding documents was the fact that, in order to recite the Preamble, we had to sing it. Paul Simon was supposed to perform “Bridge Over Troubled Water” at the World Trade Center site today. He did “Sound of Silence” instead. The only thing missing from this solemn moment was Art Garfunkel. NPR’s Margot Adler called it “perhaps the most moving moment of the ceremony.”
