Vice President Biden says Tea Party are “terrorists” [UPDATED: Cartoonists & columnists ramp up the terrorist rhetoric]
The “new civility” coming from Vice President Biden sounds a lot like some bizarre corollary to Godwin’s Law. America’s second in command said that Tea Party lawmakers “acted like terrorists” during the debt-ceiling negotiations. And when questioned him on his irresponsible tirade, he tried to pretend he didn’t say it.
Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.
“We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”
Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists.”
Biden’s office initially declined to comment about what the vice president said inside the closed-door session, but after POLITICO published the remarks, spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff said: “The word was used by several members of Congress. The vice president does not believe it’s an appropriate term in political discourse.”
Biden later denied he used that term in an interview with CBS.
“I did not use the terrorism word,” Biden told CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Scott Pelley.
Earlier in the day, Biden told Senate Democrats that Republican leaders have “guns to their heads” in trying to negotiate deals.
A terrorist is defined as:
A person, group, or organization that uses violent action, or the threat of violent action, to further political goals; frequently in an attempt to coerce either a more powerful opponent, (such as a citizen or group targeting a government), or conversely, a weaker opponent, (such as a government, or even an internal citizen or group, being targeted by a larger government).
I didn’t see any Congressmen — Democrat or Republican — hijacking planes and flying them into buildings, taking hostages, killing people they don’t agree with, beheading their opponents, blowing up churches and government buildings, or using women and children as human bombs.
All I saw were legislators who were representing the expressed wishes for fiscal responsibility from the constituents who elected them. All I saw were legislators who attempted to curtail the profligate spending of money we don’t have.
It might surprise the Vice President to learn that the First Amendment protects the rights of Americans to speak out about what their government does. It protects the rights of Americans to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances. That is precisely what the Tea Party movement has done ever since the first rallies in 2009. The Tea Party was organized to support our country’s founding principles and preserve fiscal responsibility, and dedicated to resist those who are attempting to “fundamentally transform” America into some form of European-style socialism.
It might also surprise the Vice President that 49% of American voters think the Tea Party movement is good for the country. And 48% say their views are closer to the average Tea Party member as opposed to the average member of Congress. Only 26% disagree. Sounds like an accurate representation of the divide in American politics.
When Democrats hold the line on their belief in higher taxes and bigger government, they’re portrayed in the media as principled and moderate. When Republicans hold the line on their belief in lower taxes and smaller government, they’re slandered as terrorists.
Got it. Thanks for clearing that up, Mr. Biden. And for writing the script for yet another GOP campaign ad for 2012.

You know what they say: Never negotiate with terrorists. It only encourages them.
These last few months, much of the country has watched in horror as the Tea Party Republicans have waged jihad on the American people. Their intransigent demands for deep spending cuts, coupled with their almost gleeful willingness to destroy one of America’s most invaluable assets, its full faith and credit, were incredibly irresponsible. But they didn’t care. Their goal, they believed, was worth blowing up the country for, if that’s what it took.
Like ideologues everywhere, they scorned compromise. When John Boehner, the House speaker, tried to cut a dealwith President Obama that included some modest revenue increases, they humiliated him. After this latest agreementwas finally struck on Sunday night — amounting to a near-complete capitulation by Obama — Tea Party members went on Fox News to complain that it only called for $2.4 trillion in cuts, instead of $4 trillion.
It appears the Liberals at the NYT think Conservatives should not be allowed to have constitutional rights and should simply sit back while our government plunges further into insolvency. To them, the attempt to get our financial house in order is the moral equivalent of suicide bombing. The Left’s entitlement mentality has truly become a mental illness.

UPDATE: More new “new tone” from the unhinged Left — now they’re fantasizing about how great it would be if President Obama were to send the U.S. Navy SEALs to kill House Republicans for listening to their Tea Party constituents.
UPDATE: Guy Benson documents the torrent of ”Tea Party are terrorists” narrative from the Left. Grab a beverage, there’s a LOT to read.
