Obama threatens to withhold Social Security checks despite sufficient funds [UPDATED] Social Security Chief Actuary exposes Obama deception

This really shouldn’t surprise me since President Obama already showed his willingness to play political games with the salaries of our military families during his budget showdown with Republicans earlier this year.

Now, he’s needlessly frightening senior citizens with the threat of withholding Social Security checks unless he gets authorization from Republicans to raise America’s debt limit and levy new tax increases to continue federal spending.

President Barack Obama told CBS News today that there may not be enough money in the U.S. Treasury to cover Social Security checks after Aug. 3 if Congress does not agree to lift the legal limit on the federal debt and allow his administration to borrow more money.

“I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it,” Obama told CBS News anchor Scott Pelley in an interview.

However, according to the Daily Treasury Statements published by the U.S. Treasury Department, the ongoing flow of federal tax revenue since the Treasury declared that it had hit the debt limit on May 16 has been more than sufficient to cover the combined costs of federal spending on interest payments, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, the Veterans Affairs department and federal workers wages and insurance benefits (including wages and insurance benefits for military personnel).

On June 29, 2011, Obama was assuring Americans that he wouldn’t be engaging in scare tactics.

“I’m the President of the United States and I want to make sure that I am not engaging in scare tactics. And I’ve tried to be responsible and somewhat restrained so that folks don’t get spooked.”

And then on July 12, he was on the CBS Evening News, implying that the debt limit impasse with Republicans would cause Social Security, veterans benefits and disability checks to be withheld. Yeah, that’s really responsible and somewhat restrained.

If those checks don’t get sent on time to their recipients, it will be because President Obama purposely held them back for political reasons.

Every day, our President finds new ways to prove Rep. Joe Wilson correct.

RELATED: Rep. Allen West (R-FL) calls out President Obama for his scaremongering, criticizing him as a “rigid ideologue,” leading by “intimidation and scare tactics.”

“My concern is that we have a President that is not willing to do his job and that is to prioritize the spending. That he is digging in his heels, being very intransigent, and he’s being a rigid ideologue. And he must understand that every single one of his economic policies have failed. So I think it’s time that he realize that he does not have the moral high ground in this argument.”

UPDATE: The Chief Actuary for Social Security confirmed that withholding checks during a shutdown would be a political decision:

During a July 13, 2011 Budget Committee hearing Congressman Huelskamp asked Stephen Goss, Chief Actuary for Social Security, for additional information about President Obama’s statement the day before that he cannot guarantee that Social Security checks would be mailed August 3. Mr. Goss indicated that the Social Security Administration anticipates issuing checks, but that it will be a decision of the Obama administration as to whether or not the checks are mailed.
