Obama threatens to veto ‘Cut, Cap and Balance’
Dear Leader says, “Peas for thee, but not for me.”
The White House on Monday warned President Obama will veto GOP legislation to “Cut, Cap and Balance” spending and the budget.
In a statement of administration policy, the White House Office of Management and Budget labeled the GOP bill as an “empty political statement.”
The House Rules Committee is expected to take up the measure on Monday, and it is likely to receive a floor vote on Tuesday. The measure would cut spending in Fiscal Year 2012 by $111 billion, cap future spending at 19.9 percent of gross domestic product and would allow for the debt ceiling to be increased if a balanced budget amendment is approved by Congress and sent to the stats.
The administration said the measure, which is not expected to move through the Senate, is unnecessary and unrealistic.
“Neither setting arbitrary spending levels nor amending the Constitution is necessary to restore fiscal responsibility,” the White House said in its statement. “Increasing the federal debt limit, which is needed to avoid a federal government default on its obligations and a severe blow to the economy, should not be conditioned on taking these actions. Instead of pursuing an empty political statement and unrealistic policy goals, it is necessary to move beyond politics as usual and find bipartisan common ground.”
That’s quite an intractable position coming from an administration that doesn’t even have a budget of its own. Obama’s $3.7 trillion budget proposal was so vague, the Congressional Budget Office couldn’t score it because it was so vague. No wonder it was unanimously rejected by members of his own party in the Senate.
And I find it astonishing that the White House is calling a Balanced Budget Amendment “unnecessary and unrealistic.” The only thing unnecessary and unrealistic in this debt limit battle is the Democrat Party’s hollow rhetoric. If a Balanced Budget Amendment is unnecessary, why is the federal deficit so far out of whack?
For two years, Obama and the Democrat Party held majorities in both houses of Congress as well as the White House, yet in all that time they didn’t even put forth a budget, let alone abalanced budget proposal. It’s been over 20 months without a budget proposal from a Democrat in either the House or the Senate. They’re not interested in fiscal responsibility, they’re interested in continuing the gravy train for their constituents and sticking achievers with additional financial obligation.
Now that Republicans have put forth the Ryan Plan (which was scored by the CBO and even uses the CBO’s own economic numbers), Obama and the Democrats can do nothing but put their fingers in their ears and shout, “La la la la! Can’t hear you!” They’d rather stonewall and refuse to “eat their peas” while hurling accusations at Republicans who are making efforts to fend off federal default.
All these Democrat clowns know how to do is spend money, increase taxes, and expand government.
