Obama: “Shovel-ready was not as…uh…shovel-ready as we expected.”

Humor FAIL from President Obama at today’s “Jobs Council.”

President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness met today in Durham, NC at Cree Inc., a company that manufactures energy-efficient LED lighting. One of the Council’s recommendations to President Obama was to streamline the federal permit process for construction and infrastructure projects. It was explained to Obama that the permitting process can delay projects for “months to years … and in many cases even cause projects to be abandoned … I’m sure that when you implemented the Recovery Act your staff briefed you on many of these challenges.” At this point, Obama smiled and interjected, “Shovel-ready was not as … uh .. shovel-ready as we expected.” The Council, led by GE’s Jeffrey Immelt, erupted in laughter.

The Obama administration promised the Recovery Act (“the stimulus”) would prevent the jobless rate from going over 8%. It now stands at 9.1%.

Worst economic crisis since the Great Depression made worse by the incompetent flailings of this administration? That sure is a knee-slapper!

Charles Krauthammer understands why Obama may have found this amusing:

“A year-and-a-half and half-a-trillion dollars later he says, ‘Well, these things I talk about endlessly don’t exist.’ It’s not surprising that he doesn’t know a shovel-ready project didn’t exist because having never worked in the private sector he wouldn’t sure what a project is and there isn’t shoveling in Harvard Law School, so I can understand.

Krauthammer said the president’s admission could prove costly for Democrats in upcoming elections.

“This is one of the greatest ‘oops’ in American history,” he continued. “And it’s going to be hard for a Democrat when you show, you know one tape against another, and you’re going to say, ‘You supported $1 trillion offered by a president who didn’t know that this is not going to happen?’ And that is probably why – since everybody expected it would affect unemployment and didn’t this is probably one of the reasons why – things weren’t shovel-ready.”

Isn’t it sad that our president thinks the dismal state of the U.S. economy is something to joke about? As if impetuously tinkering with America’s engine can be explained away with a mere punchline. The only joke is how so many in our nation were tricked into electing this inexperienced narcissist as our Chief Executive. And after nearly three years of bungling the economy, all he can offer is awkward buffoonery. If a CEO squandered his company’s funds so ineptly, he would be fired for gross negligence by his board of directors. Which is precisely what should happen to President Obama in 2012.

I suppose it’s good that Obama is willing to admit his “shovel-ready” $825 billion economic stimulus plan was a complete and utter failure. Now if he’ll only admit the same about his foolish Obamacare program and the rest of his Marxist “rob the rich and give away to the poor” policies, maybe we can move away from his harmful collectivism and put our country back on the road to recovery.
