NBC apologizes for cutting “under God” from Pledge of Allegiance
I don’t know which is more offensive; the fact that NBC thought they should remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance, or their subsequent excuse that the omission was unintentional.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, with liberty and justice for all.

NBC apologized for cutting the words “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance in its leadup to coverage to the U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club.The move quickly drew criticism Dan Hicks said, during the broadcast of Open action:
“We began our coverage of this final round just about three hours ago and when we did it was our intent to begin the coverage of this U.S. Open Championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being held in our nation’s capital for the third time. Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we’d like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.”
Was NBC really that ignorant that they didn’t know the words to the Pledge of Allegiance? Or did they just think their viewers were ignorant enough to believe “under God” was removed by mistake? If the end of the Pledge of Allegiance was inadvertently cut off during the broadcast, I could accept that it might have been an oversight or an accident. But it really doesn’t seem like that could be the case because only those specific words were deleted.
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
This appears to have been an conscious decision. Just like when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) decided to leave out God when reciting the pledge.
And similar to when President Obama omitted God from the Declaration of Independence during his speech at the Hispanic Caucus:
In the closing remarks of his speech, Obama recites part of the Declaration of Independence, and leaves out “by their Creator.” He recited “endowed with certain inalienable [sic] rights…”
And when he omitted God from the Declaration of Independence again when speaking at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) in Rockville, Md.
And again during his speech on Middle East policy:
In all these instances, that should have read: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
What’s not clear is whether these particular Liberals despise God and resent His inclusion in America’s history, and their refusal to acknowledge God is subconscious. Or if they believe our rights come from government rather than our Creator, and want our history amended accordingly.

Wasn’t the pledge without the words “under God” prior to 1960 anyway? I remember my uncle telling me that in grade school, he had to put his hand outstretched to the flag in a Nazi salute, prior to 1945. I remember it used to be pretty funny in school because everyone got the cadence wrong when it came to “under God”. Our country seems to have survived for 150 years without “under God” and a Nazi salute to the flag. Would our country really sink into abyss if it were omitted?
