Obama botches royal toast at Queen’s banquet

Admittedly, this is much ado about nothing. So the reason I’m choosing to blog about it is because Progressives have been trying for years to convince everybody that Bush was a buffoon and that Obama is elegant and educated. But just like the way Obama has been continuing Bush’s policies ever since he occupied the Oval Office, he’s continuing his predecessor’s tendency for embarrassing gaffes as well.

Earlier in the day yesterday, Obama signed the wrong year (2008) in the guestbook at Westminster Abbey. And then last night, he proposed a toast to the Queen during England’s national anthem:

Barack Obama suffered an awkward moment during a banquet at Buckingham Palace last night when he broke royal protocol by speaking over the national anthem.

The US President had just begun proposing a toast to the Queen when the orchestra accidentally struck up God Save The Queen.

However, rather than pause and continue the speech after the music had stopped, Mr Obama pressed on only to be rebuffed when he raised his glass to her.

The Queen did not seem to take offence at the mishap and appeared to stifle an embarrassed smile.

Protocol demands that people stand to attention when the national anthem is played.

Seated between the Queen and the Duchess of Cornwall for the white tie function, Mr Obama got to his feet and addressed the guests saying: “Ladies and gentlemen, please stand with me and raise your glasses as I propose a toast.

“To Her Majesty the Queen.”

Mistakenly believing that was their cue, the orchestra of the Scots Guard began playing the national anthem.

Mr Obama continued: “For the vitality of the special relationship between our peoples and in the words of Shakespeare to ‘this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England’.”

Raising his glass, halfway through the anthem, he concluded “to the Queen”, but seemed baffled when she did not respond.

Looking around sheepishly at the rows of guests stood in silence, Mr Obama placed his glass back on the table and clasped his hands until the band had finished.

He then repeated the gesture to the Queen, who smiled again, as she finally raised her own glass to the President.

Awwkwarrrrrd!

Not content to leave well enough alone, Dear Leader further beclowns himself by attempting to explain his lapse in decorum:

“I thought that it was out of the movies where it was a soundtrack… And it kind of comes in,” Obama added. “A voiceover.”

According to the schedule, the order was supposed to be speech, music, and then the actual toast.

Surely he can’t be so narcissistic to have believed the band was there just to enhance his toast with dramatic music? Ok, don’t answer that. Perhaps Obama will send the Queen another iPod loaded with this latest video of his boorish behavior.

RELATED: UK’s Telegraph listed President Obama’s top ten insults against Britain (2011 edition).

Without a shadow of a doubt, Barack Obama has been the most anti-British president in modern American history. The Special Relationship has been significantly downgraded, and at times humiliated under his presidency, which has displayed a shocking disregard for America’s most important partner and strategic ally.

There are a multitude of reasons for President Obama’s dismissive approach to the UK, and here are a few: an obsession with engaging and appeasing America’s enemies rather than cultivating allies; personal animosity towards Britain because of his grandfather’s role as a Mau Mau supporter in 1950’s colonial Kenya; Democrat resentment over British support for the Bush Administration over Iraq; left-wing disdain for the idea of Anglo-American exceptionalism and world leadership; support for supranational institutions such as the European Union over the supremacy of the nation state.

Be sure to read all the whole list. Barry has managed to do quite a bit of damage in just under three years.
