Memorial Day 2011 – Freedom Isn’t Free
The video below features many of America’s military memorials and a haunting rendition of Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” arranged in this instance for brass rather than choral performance.
As Americans, we owe such a debt of gratitude to all the men and women who, throughout our history, have chosen to wear our country’s uniform and defend us. And even more so are we grateful to those who have willingly laid down their lives to preserve the freedoms of this great nation.
By all means, enjoy your weekend celebrations. But please also take a few moments to reflect upon why we observe Memorial Day, and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
“Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations, that we have forgotten, as a people, the cost of a free and undivided Republic.” ~John A. Logan, founder of Memorial Day
