Democrats will shut down government and suspend military pay to protect federal funding of abortion

Since this week’s big story is the showdown over the budget, let’s take a minute to look at some basic facts before delving into the Democrat Party’s shenanigans.

One of the primary duties of the Legislative Branch is to establish the annual budget for the United States government. The budget is supposed to be completed before the start of the fiscal year (which happens to be Oct 1). Obama, Pelosi and Reid failed to create a budget — it was supposed to be ready by Sept 30, 2010. And at the time, the Democrat Party controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House.

Now Obama and Reid have the gall to blame Republicans for Democrat incompetence. And they’re using the GOP’s continuing resolution (in lieu of an actual budget) as an excuse to shut down the government, for which they’ll blame the Republicans.

After which, Obama will go on vacation. Yet again.

What’s the sticking point on a budget agreement? Democrats refuse to compromise on their spending priorities, specifically abortion and socialized medicine.

House Republicans want the budget deal to include the $61 billion in cuts that exist in the budget bill they passed earlier this year, as well as controversial policy riders including provisions that would strip government funding for Planned Parenthood, EPA, Public Broadcasting and health care implementation [i.e. Obamacare ~FMP].

Even worse, Democrats are playing politics with the salaries of military families, threatening that a government shutdown will leave our soldiers without pay. This is a shameless lie. As Commander-In-Chief, Obama could ensure the funding of America’s military, just as Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton did during previous government shutdowns. But rather than accept billions in desperately-needed budget cuts, Obama would rather shut down the federal government and suspend military pay in order to get his way.

In the past, American soldiers were classified as essential personnel. Therefore, should the government shut down our soldiers would keep getting paid.

But Barack Obama has decided to hold our American soldiers hostage to a government shutdown. The Commander-in-Chief has, via the Secretary of the Department of Defense, proposed classifying our men and women in harm’s way as “non-essential.” That means, should the government shut down, they will not be paid.

As Mike Flynn notes, during the previous two government shutdowns during the Reagan and Clinton Administrations, soldiers were treated as essential. Barack Obama is not following suit.

It is important to note that the “non-essential” classification is a draft recommendation, but it is a huge departure from prior shutdowns and comes directly from the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Why would Barack Obama and the Democrats do this? The answer is simple.

They need to change the message because right now they are losing. And they are willing to use our soldiers as hostages to get that message changed.

You KNOW things are bad when Obama can’t even muster Bill Clinton’s level of presidential propriety!

The House even approved legislation to fund the Pentagon in the event of a shutdown, but Obama dismissed funding of our troops as a “distraction” and has threatened to veto the measure if it reaches his desk.

Sorry, Dems. But your political brinksmanship stinks to high heaven.

It’s pure sophistry to assert that Republicans are “holding up the deal over ideological issues.” What that really means is that in their attempt to strip out extravagant spending, the GOP is trying to remove federal funding of Planned Parenthood in their continuing resolution. And the Democrat party is willing to shut down the government just so our tax dollars will go toward performing abortions.

If Congress and the President can’t agree on a budget, then suspend their pay and travel until the budget has been passed. Shut down the IRS (especially the IRS) and all other non-essential government offices. And leave them closed indefinitely. Then let Congress pass individual resolutions to fund each one of them separately. In the time it takes to get them all started up again, and to re-employ all the furloughed federal workers, our government would save billions of dollars.

Our economy has been crippled by rampant, unchecked deficit spending. And the vast majority of the American people expect Congress to cut the federal budget. Not just to keep it at current levels and call it a cut. We want REDUCTIONS in spending, not just a reduction in the increase of spending. Responsible Americans realize the need for a return to fiscal sanity, which was the reason for Republican success and the drubbing of the Democrat Party in the 2010 elections. Now the Democrats want to hold back funding of the entire United States government just to protect unconstitutional entitlement spending and federally-funded infanticide?

Thanks, Dems. You’ve just handed the Republicans their 2012 campaign.
