Democrats and teachers push for economic collapse in Wisconsin

My new job has kept me far too busy to post as much as I’d like this week. Since I haven’t been able to keep up my blog with all of this week’s events, I’ll just offer my $.02 recap.

Democrats have had a banner week, highlighting their hypocrisy, their dedication to fleecing achievers in order to subsidize their constituents, and their preference for running away from fiscal responsibility.

After spending the last three years lambasting Republicans as the “party of no,” the Democrat party will not offer their own spending plan for this fiscal year. And last year, the Democrat-led Congress refused to pass a budget for the first time since 1974. But now, Dems are standing back and feigning outrage while Republicans attempt to fix the financial mess created by rampant Democrat spending and imprudent “stimulus” programs.

Hrmm…seems to me that not too long ago, President Obama was complaining that Republicans weren’t doing enough to “help” while he and the Democrat party attempted to a pull the proverbial car out of the ditch (translation — increase federal spending). Seems like the Slurpee’s on the other foot now. Yes, I’m mixing my metaphors, but you get my drift.

Sadly, Democrat irresponsibility isn’t confined to national politics. Wisconsin has been the scene of a contentious budget conflict between Governor Scott Walker (R) and public employee union members .

…tensions have been simmering here since Gov. Scott Walker proposed a bill that would close a projected $3.6 billion shortfall by forcing public employees to pay 5.8% of their salary toward their pensions and 12.6% of healthcare premiums, up from 6% on average. On top of that, Mr. Walker aims to cut many of the collective bargaining rights from union members, a move he says will prevent massive layoffs but which union members say will take away a basic human right.

Call me crazy, but I’ve worked in the private sector for 27 years without the “basic human right” of collective bargaining. I’ve always negotiated my own salary and benefits.

But admittedly, I’ve never negotiated the kind of sweetheart deals that public employees in Wisconsin have gotten.

The average Milwaukee Public School teacher will be receiving $100,005 in compensation this year – $56,500 of that is in salary, and a whopping $43,505 is in benefits.

I think it’s beyond outrageous that Wisconsin teachers are attempting to use taxpayer-paid sick time to make demands from the taxpayers. Public teachers and other union members are behaving like spoiled children at the prospect that their gravy train might be slightly less juicy than it’s been in years past. And they don’t care whether who else has to sacrifice, just as long as it’s not them.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why these union members are so upset about Walker’s budget proposal.

Under Walker’s plan, state employees’ share of pension and health care costs would go up by an average of 8 percent. The changes would save the state $30 million by June 30 and $300 million over the next two years to address a $3.6 billion budget shortfall.

Unions could still represent workers, but could not seek pay increases above those pegged to the Consumer Price Index unless approved by a public referendum. Unions also could not force employees to pay dues and would have to hold annual votes to stay organized.

In exchange for bearing more costs and losing bargaining leverage, public employees were promised no furloughs or layoffs. Walker has threatened to order layoffs of up to 6,000 state workers if the measure does not pass.

When I was laid off in 2007 and again in 2008, I would have gladly taken a pay cut or a reduction in benefits (or both) rather than being unemployed. Companies all over the country are having to cut back in order to remain afloat. Workers are being asked to work more and earn less as the economy continues to stagnate. These union employees are not sacred, nor are they irreplaceable. If they continue to protest against fiscal responsibility and common sense, they’re just asking to become unemployed.

Speaking of which, it should be noted that according to Wisconsin state law, it is illegal for public school teachers to strike. Every single teacher who participates in this illegal “sick-out” should be indefinitely furloughed or fired. And every physician who colludes with them by providing fraudulent “doctor’s notes” should have their medical license revoked (Bloggers RightKlik and Jane Jamison are listing the crooked doctors).

As one might expect, irresponsible “gimme gimme” liberals have a friend in the Democrat party. Now that Democrat legislators hold a minority in Wisconsin, they’re acting like petulant children and holding the taxpayers hostage by using parlimentary tricks to avoid a vote on Gov. Walker’s budget bill.

Rather than watch the bill pass over their minority votes, 14 Democratic state senators fled Wisconsin on Thursday, bringing the legislative process to a halt and giving time for union backers, including a political organization affiliated with President Barack Obama, to rally support at the statehouse.

Not every Democrat was fortunate enough to evade accountability. In this video, Democrat Senators Robert Jauch and Jim Holperin are confronted by the members of the Rockford Tea Party who ask them why they’re refusing to do their jobs.

In November 2010, the people of Wisconsin voted in a Republican governor, a Republican majority Senate and a Republican majority House of Representatives. Now Wisconsin Democrats refuse to relinquish control; preferring anarchy, union mobs, and violence to rule the Wisconsin state capital. And apparently, they won’t be satisfied until they’ve forced a Greece-style economic collapse.

As might be expected, the Community Organizer In Chief has inserted himself into the state of Wisconsin’s business by speaking out against the fiscal responsibility measures being attempted by Gov. Walker.

Not one to be bullied, Gov. Walker tells President Obama to butt out of state business.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has fired back at President Barack Obama for meddling in his state government’s ongoing battle with public sector unions.

On Thursday, Obama accused Republican Walker of unleashing an “assault” on unions in pushing emergency legislation that would nullify collective-bargaining agreements affecting most public employees.

On Friday morning, Walker told Fox News: “I think we’re focusing on balancing our budget. It would be wise for the president and others in Washington to focus on balancing their budget, which they are a long ways from doing.”

The White House political operation, Organizing for America, got involved in the Wisconsin dispute on Monday.

And the president’s political machine worked closely with state and national union officials to get thousands of protesters to gather in Madison, the state capital, on Thursday, The Washington Post reported.

Yes, you read that right. The President of the United States is helping to organize protests against a state governor. Just another example of Obama’s blatant disregard for the rule of law and the constitutional principle of state sovereignty.

UPDATE: Scumbag socialist groups are taking advantage of the protests to recruit new leeches members. And these idiots are so deluded, they believe the union’s efforts to bankrupt Wisconsin are the same as Egypt’s protests for democracy. (video h/t: Chicks On The Right)
