Allen West’s keynote speech at CPAC 2011

At CPAC this weekend, Lt. Colonel (RET) Allen West gave the keynote address. He outlined three “pillars of conservatism” that will lead to what he called the “new dawn of a new America”: 1) effective and efficient principles of constitutional government, 2) peace through vigilance, resolve, and strength, and 3) a commitment to stay true to American values. Via Political Ticker:

The Tea Party favorite affirmed that he took an oath “to be a guardian for the conservative principles that make America the greatest nation that the world has ever known,” and denounced “liberal progressivism” that “has repeatedly failed all over the world.”

The more I hear from LtCol West, the more I like him. I look forward to seeing how he performs as representative of Florida’s 22nd congressional district.

UPDATE: At CPAC’s Blogger Lounge, West spoke with conservative bloggers:

Allen West voted to extend a few patriot act provisions without debate. Whilst we need parts of the Patriot act, other parts are unconstitutional and not consistent with Allen West's commitments. It's a complex issue but Allen West should explain why he is voting for each provision and how it is constitutional, if he want's to go around claiming to be defending the constitution.

You make a good point. I hadn't heard about this, but will definitely look into it. Thanks for the comment and the head's up.
