Federal judge rules Obamacare unconstitutional

Posted 31 Jan 2011 in healthcare, Obamacare

*** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE *** Florida Judge Vinson: “Because the individual mandate is unconstitutional and not severable, the entire Act must be declared void.” Good news via Bloomberg: President Barack Obama’s health care law, assailed as an abuse of federal power in a 26-state lawsuit, was ruled unconstitutional by a U.S. judge who said Congress overstepped its authority to regulate commerce. U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson in Pensacola, Florida, declared the entire law unconstitutional today in a 78-page opinion . He said the law’s provision requiring Americans over 18 to obtain insurance coverage exceeded Congress’ powers under the commerce clause of the U.S Constitution. Florida filed suit on behalf of...

Is Obama "Cartering" the Egypt protests?

Posted 31 Jan 2011 in Barack Obama, foreign policy

*** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES *** President Obama spoke over the weekend about the past week’s violence and demonstrations in Egypt. He mentioned reform and reiterated a tepid support for basic human freedoms. It appears that he’s carefully weighing his words so as not to disturb the rainbows and unicorns from his Cairo Speech, nor repeat President Carter’s mishandling of the Iranian Revolution in 1978. (Full text of Obama’s statement available here) Obama’s noncommittal might come back to bite him, just like Carter’s abandonment of the Shah led to Iran’s descent into radical Islamic fundamentalism. And the big IF in these Egyptian protests is whether the Muslim Brotherhood will be swept into power if Mubarak steps down. Ed Morrissey...

"Obama Loves Reagan" Parodies

*** BUMPED, SCROLL DOWN FOR NUMEROUS UPDATES *** Thursday, I blogged about Time Magazine’s cover that will run this week. Since I’m fairly decent with Photoshop, I figured two can play that game… Turns out I’m not the only one with that thought. Here are several other good parodies… via imaksim: via No Sheeples Here: via iOwnTheWorld: In violation of the geek amendment to Godwin’s Law, here’s a great one posted by a commenter on The People’s Cube: via I Hate The Media: —UPDATE: Bumped to include numerous other “alternate versions” as well as the actual Time cover for those who haven’t yet seen it (and thrown up in their mouths as a result). *** Welcome, PJTV.com readers! ***

President Reagan’s Challenger Disaster Speech

Posted 28 Jan 2011 in disaster, Ronald Reagan

25 years ago today, President Reagan preempted his State of the Union speech to eulogize the brave men and women who died earlier that day aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger. Ladies and gentlemen, I’d planned to speak to you tonight to report on the state of the Union, but the events of earlier today have led me to change those plans. Today is a day for mourning and remembering. Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger. We know we share this pain with all of the people of our country. This is truly a national loss. Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident...

Time Magazine — Extreme Obama Makeover: Reagan Edition

*** NUMEROUS UPDATES, SCROLL DOWN FOR ALL THE NEW STUFF *** The liberal spinmeisters are already ramping up the propaganda for President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. And Time Magazine is leading the charge by shamelessly exploiting President Reagan’s centennial to resuscitate Obama’s failing presidency. (h/t: velvethammer) In spite of Time‘s obsequious reporting of Obama’s supposed “admiration” for Reagan, their assertion that Obama studied Reagan’s memoir, or the fact that Dear Leader covets The Gipper’s charisma, it still doesn’t mean that Obama has suddenly shifted toward the center. It just means that Obama recognizes the ass-whipping he received in the 2010 midterm elections and is seeking to pander to Conservatives’ admiration for our 40th president. The magazine cover shows a...

Religion of Peace update: Iranian Book Celebrating Suicide Bombers Found in Arizona Desert

This book couldn’t possibly have been dropped by an Islamic fanatic who snuck into America across our border with Mexico, right? (h/t: The Jawa Report) A book celebrating suicide bombers has been found in the Arizona desert just north of the U.S.- Mexican border, authorities tell Fox News. The book, “In Memory of Our Martyrs,” was spotted Tuesday by a U.S. Border Patrol agent out of the Casa Grande substation who was patrolling a route known for smuggling illegal immigrants and drugs. Published in Iran, it consists of short biographies of Islamic suicide bombers and other Islamic militants who died carrying out attacks. According to internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection documents, “The book also includes letters from suicide...

Economic Pie: Zero Sum Game vs Grow the Pie (or "Bake Your Own Pie, Don’t Steal Mine")

Posted 27 Jan 2011 in economy, taxes, wise quotes

(video h/t: The Daley Gator) Since President Obama made sure to include his usual class warfare rhetoric in this year’s State of the Union speech, I thought it would be a good idea to post a little something for “Progressives” like Obama who clearly don’t understand basic economics and think the only way out of our recession is to raise taxes and redistribute wealth. An Economic and Philosophical Refutation of the Zero-Sum View of Wealthby G. Stolyarov II Special interest groups often attempt to expropriate others, justifying their actions by claiming “their share of the economic pie.” They are able to get away with violating genuinely productive individuals’ property rights by exploiting a widespread fallacy. This fallacy is the...

FMP’s response to the 2011 State of the Union

Posted 26 Jan 2011 in Barack Obama, class warfare, economy, unemployment

*** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES ***Paul Ryan’s GOP response here, Michelle Bachmann’s Tea Party response here I don’t place much stock in State of the Union speeches, because they really don’t live up to their name. The President does not give Congress a report on the true state of the union. Regardless of the political party in power, the president stands in the House of Representatives and offers a collection of campaign-style platitudes and emotional anecdotes, intended to be dissected and disseminated as sound bites over the following week. President Obama’s State of the Union speech was a mind-numbing 6,955 words, droning on for 61 minutes. That’s not long by SOTU standards, but it sure felt like it. (Full...

Video & transcript: Michele Bachmann gives Tea Party response to Obama’s State Of The Union address

Posted 26 Jan 2011 in conservatism, teaparty

***SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES*** Good evening. My name is Congresswoman Michele Bachmann from Minnesota’s 6th District. I want to thank the Tea Party Express and Tea Party HD for inviting me to speak this evening. I’m here at their request and not to compete with the official Republican remarks. The Tea Party is a dynamic force for good in our national conversation, and it’s an honor for me to speak with you. Two years ago, when Barack Obama became our president, unemployment was 7.8%, and our national debt stood at what seemed like a staggering $10.6 trillion. We wondered whether the president would cut spending, reduce the deficit and implement real job-creating policies. Unfortunately,...
