Obama Calls Republicans “Hostage Takers”
Snotty. Petulant. Arrogant. Not at all presidential. But then, that’s no big surprise.
During a press conference moments ago, President Obama explained his decision to concede to Republican demands to extend the Bush tax cuts to those who make more than $250,000 by comparing congressional GOP to hostage-takers: “It’s tempting not to negotiate with hostage takers, unless the hostage gets harmed…The hostage was the American people.”Last week, Democratic senator Bob Menendez said that negotiating with Republicans on tax cuts is “almost” like negotiating with “terrorists.” At the time, the harsh analogy–long favored by left-wing bloggers–seemed like it may have been an unbecoming slip-of-the tongue for the Democratic senator, but President Obama’s remarks indicate that comparing Republicans to hostage-takers is now an official Democratic talking point.
The Teleprompter-In-Chief danced dangerously close to violating Godwin’s Law on that one. Sounds like The One missed Jon Stewart’s left-leaning Rally to Restore Sanity.
So much for bipartisanship. First, our chief executive claims to have reached a compromise with Republicans. And then, after angry Progressives shut down the White House switchboard with their demands for higher taxes, he comes up with this pathetic “loser’s limp” excuse. Such passive-aggressive hostility will be a great incentive for the GOP to cooperate with the president in the future, huh?
If anyone was a “hostage taker,” Mr. President, you were the one holding America’s achievers hostage to your agenda of endless entitlements and wealth redistribution. Luckily, Republicans didn’t give in to your efforts to demonize Americans who know how to succeed.
