"Death to all soldiers": 69 year-old British vet attacked for wearing RAF blazer and poppy
A veteran of Britain’s Royal Air Force was hospitalized by two thugs who shouted: “Death to soldiers”. (h/t: Gateway Pundit)
A former serviceman was ambushed and beaten up by drunken thugs simply because he was wearing an RAF blazer and poppy.
Anthony O’Brien was preparing for a comrade’s funeral when the two teenage yobs shouted at him: ‘Blow up all soldiers – death to all soldiers’.
The pair – described as being of Asian or mixed race – then headbutted and punched the 69-year-old to the floor.
He managed to stagger home to raise the alarm and was taken to hospital, where, battered and bruised, he spent the next five weeks recovering.
The incident has left him wheelchair bound with long-term health problems.
Forensics officers, meanwhile, have been examining Mr O’Brien’s forces blazer to see if the thugs left any of their DNA on it.Mr O’Brien, who has two sons and two grandchildren, said yesterday: ‘These yobs who did this to me are nothing but cowardly scum.
‘I wear my poppy with pride because of those people who laid down their lives for this country and I march every year on Remembrance Sunday yet these thugs obviously treat all that with utter contempt.
‘I wouldn’t do what they did to me to a dog. It really gets me angry, if they had any respect they wouldn’t have said what they said or attacked me.
‘I want them caught, they could do it to someone older than me and it could be so much worse for them than even what has happened to me.
‘At the end of the day they are cowards for doing it to an older person, one of them was a big fellow – he should have picked on someone his own size.’
Details of the horrifying incident, which happened on November 1, emerged only yesterday.
…The attack took place after Mr O’Brien had met friends to plan for a funeral the next day of a former colleague.
The pensioner, who served with the Parachute Regiment in the 1960s, added: ‘We were deciding who was going where and where we were meeting.
‘I’d had one pint and then left to go home. As I was walking down the street, I saw these two lads at the end and as I got near them they started shouting and swearing.
‘They were shouting “f****** shoot all you bastards and blow your soldiers up. Death to all soldiers”.
‘I was scared. I was wearing my RAF blazer and my poppy, I wear it regularly because it’s smart and I’m proud of it. I thought they were drunk or something.
‘I told them to leave me alone but then the little fellow hit me on the side of my head.
‘Then the other fellow must have run round because the next thing he was right in front of me coming towards my head and I didn’t have time to move and he headbutted me.
‘Then they ran away. I don’t even know how I got home to my flat, that’s where I had been going in the first place.
…One of the attackers was described as stocky and 5ft 6in with thin braided hair and dark clothing.
The second man was chubby and 5ft 4in tall with short shaved black hair and dark clothing. They fled the scene on bicycles.
Multiculturalism sure seems to be working out for the UK, huh? The perpetrators were “Asian or mixed race” who wanted to “blow up all soldiers”? Hrmmm, let’s see…who likes to blow people up and has it in for British soldiers? I wonder if O’Brien’s attackers looked anything like these fellows?
