The Sun King’s trip to India

SunKingObamaWill Rogers famously quipped, “When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.”

President Obama apparently has never heard of Will Rogers. Or common sense, for that matter. How else could one explain Obama’s extravagant 10-day vacation state visit to India, Indonesia, Japan and Korea?

Mr. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are set to arrive in the city on Saturday and will stay the night in the presidential suite of Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel. Around 3,000 personnel will accompany the President and an equal number are believed to have already flown in and out of the city to prepare for the visit. Among those accompanying the President will be 200 of his personal staff and about 150 journalists.

UK’s Daily Mail reports that the Obamas will have the entire Taj Mahal to themselves. I guess the other 3,000 guests will be staying elsewhere?

Extreme measures to ensure the safety of President Obama will include the complete booking of the 570-room Taj Mahal Hotel for his security entourage.

Perhaps all the extra rooms will be needed for TOTUS?

A teleprompter will be in use for the first time in the Central Hall of Parliament when US President Barack Obama addresses MPs on November eight.

As per the tentative programme being worked out, the address by Obama, who once said that “America has its roots in the India of Mahatma Gandhi”, would not be for more than 20 minutes.

It’s pathetic that our “elegant” president can’t abide by India’s parliamentary tradition and speak for just a few minutes without his training wheels.

MichelleAntoinetteThere have been reports from India that Obama’s trip will cost $200 million per day, a figure which the White House is vigorously denying (while stonewalling about the “actual” cost). Understandable, because if the figures are anywhere near accurate, this boondoggle could tack on an additional $2 BILLION to the debt already being racked up by this administration.

The operation will cost the U.S. government the astonishing figure, a top Indian government source told the country’s NDTV.

The source said: ‘The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit.’

Security for the President of the United States is always a top priority and a necessary expense no matter who occupies the Oval Office. I understand the need for multiple armored vehicles, helicopters, and Secret Service agents, but does this trip really require 34 American warships as well?

He will also be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his two-day stay there beginning Saturday.

Whether this trip actually costs $200M per day or not, it will clearly be a tremendous expense to the American taxpayers.

Hasn’t Chairman Zero ever heard of GoToMeeting.com?
