Florida school bans Santa Claus and Christmas colors [UPDATED: District issues denial]
In a move sure to excite Scrooges and Grinches everywhere, Christmas has been banned for some Florida schoolchildren.
A school in Florida has not only banned Christmas – but everything associated with the Christian holiday.Teachers at Heathrow Elementary School have been ordered to banish images of Santa Claus from classrooms – along with traditional Christmas colors like red and green.
“You can’t use red and green,” one outraged parent told WESH. “It’s ridiculous.”
The parent, who serves as a volunteer room mother, said she was recently given a list of guidelines that listed the holiday restrictions.
She said the basic theme of the letter was, “We don’t want to offend anyone who doesn’t believe in Santa Claus or the Christian beliefs.”
Sure, ban Christmas to avoid offending militant Islamists and zealous atheists. Who cares if, in the process, they offend the vast majority of Americans who DO celebrate Christmas? Smooth move, Seminole County!

UPDATE: After receiving a predictable backlash from angry parents, the Seminole County Public Schools district has issued the following retraction correction…
The school district of Seminole County would like to correct the recent news stories regarding the “ban of red and green” at Heathrow Elementary School in Lake Mary, Florida. The banning of red and green is simply not true.Out of respect for their diverse community, the common practice for December classroom activities has been a winter theme which can include red, green, or any color.
I’ll be curious to see if there will be any follow-up on this story utilizing Florida’s Public Records Law. I wonder if there was ever actually a memo like the one mentioned by the parent, or emails sent from the district to the school after the story went big. This may have been a case of the school or district doing an abrupt about-face or it may have been an individual teacher taking her authority a bit too far.

Hilarious! You call yourself an idiot in your own post.
You went on a rampage in this post, railing against "anti-[I'm really not sure... Americans, I guess... or maybe Christians]", but then admitted that your rant was unfounded.
what sort of "suspicious behavior" should we be vigilant of?
I believe that the 18 year old who tried to bomb people in Portland should be removed from our society in the harshest sense of the word, as being a confirmed sociopath – an enemy to civilized life.
Now that we have that out of the way, care to understand what made him that way?
Anger? Hate? Conflictinators?
What if someone believed in your crap, that the school board actually did "ban Christmas"?
Sure, the sociopath who planned and executed the attacks should fry, but who pushed them towards it?
YOU are the person we need to be vigilant of, and your behavior is suspect. God forbid anyone actually took the first part of your post to heart.
Conflictinator,
You seem to be ranting about two different blog posts. You might do well to take your ADHD medicine, or at least try to post relevant comments to the their respective blog entries.
First off, the post isn't "my crap." The Christmas story I linked was a news story from a legitimate source. The parent who was interviewed apparently had received "guidelines" from the teacher in whose class she volunteers, and on that basis, she brought it to the attention of the local news station. That's what caused the backlash.
In trying to tell the whole story by posting an update and including the school district's press release, you seem to think I'm calling myself an idiot? Wow, that's a pretty big leap. If you want to believe that neither the teacher nor the school ever banished Christmas from the classroom, you're welcome to your opinion. I find it hard to believe that a volunteer room mother simply made it all up. It's much more likely that the district did some serious spin control after their political correctness ran afoul of Seminole County parents.
As to my other post on the Portland bombing attempt, I'm glad we agree that jihadis need to be removed from society. The suspicious behavior I mention is referenced earlier in the post (studying jihad, expressing hatred for Americans, doing research on rocket propelled grenades, etc). Seeing as how I'm not a jihadi nor am I seeking to cause harm to anyone, my behavior is not suspect and your logic gets a big FAIL. Thanks for playing.
This story is not true, please see this article for clarification:

I work in this district, trust me there is no banning of any holidays, you should see the front office of my school! Happy Holidays to EVERYONE!

Thanks, Amanda. I had already posted the district's correction yesterday as soon as I heard about it, but thank you for the link. I've added it to the post for additional clarity.
