Shifting gears on Obama’s "Car In The Ditch" analogy
Proof by assertion is a logical fallacy in which a proposition is repeated over and over until everyone accepts it as fact.
Another way of saying that is: “A lie told often enough becomes truth.” ~Vladimir Lenin.
Like a broken record (or a good little Leninist), President Obama continues to trot out his “Bush drove the car into a ditch” analogy at every campaign speech leading up to this midterm election, hoping voters won’t remember that he was part of the Democrat-led Congress who helped Bush crash the economy with their extravagant spending policies.
“They drove the economy into a ditch … We’re pushing and we’re shoving to get the car out of the ditch … The whole time, the Republicans are standing up there, comfortable. Sipping on a Slurpee, watching us … Finally, we get this car back on level ground … And they say, ‘Excuse me, we want the keys back.’ You can’t have the keys back because you don’t know how to drive!”
Obama’s analogy is flawed in the fact that it overlooks the manner in which Democrats are “pushing and shoving.” Their efforts to “get the car back on level ground” are being accomplished by turning to failed policies of Marxism, in diametric opposition to the federal government’s limits as established by the U.S. Constitution. They’re doubling down on the Democrat policies of irresponsibility and over-reliance on government, which is precisely what drove our economy off the road in the first place.
But even so, let’s take this car analogy and use it as a lens with which to view the actions of Obama and the Democrats over the past four years.
Punitive Democrat tax-and-spend policies running the American free enterprise system? Yeah, that’s a strong economic engine.
Under the Democrats, our national deficit tripled in the course of a single year!
And Obama added more to the national debt in his first 19 months than ALL Presidents from Washington Through Reagan Combined!
Total federal government debt rose past $13 trillion for the first time in June 2010 and is on track to surpass U.S. Gross Domestic Product by the year 2012, according to projections just issued by the International Monetary Fund.
Obama’s shopworn analogy was trending for a while on Twitter as #NewCarMetaphors, with amusing results:
From @Anthropocon:
- Bush drove the car into a ditch. Obama locked the automatic windows, then farted.
- Bush drove the car into a ditch. Obama changed all the radio presets to NPR.
- Bush drove the car into a ditch. Obama squeegeed the windshield with the Constitution.
From @Amuk3:
- Bush drove the car into a ditch. Obama removed the engine & replaced it with a compact fluorescent lightbulb.
From @CaptKirk01:
- Bush drove the car into a ditch and Barry stripped it and gave the proceeds to the UAW.
From @Txn_1st:
- Bush drove car in ditch Obama immediately banned oil&gas drilling.
From @lheal:
- Bush broke the GPS and took a couple of wrong turns. Obama guessed the direction, shut his eyes and stood on the gas.
From @bobbycrumpley:
- Bush drove the car into the ditch. Then Obama sold the engine to the Chinese.
From @scifighter:
- Apparently the only way to get a car out of a ditch is to disassemble it piece-by-piece.
I wrote a few myself:
- Bush pressed the gas while Pelosi steered into the ditch. Obama poured $3 trillion worth of Marxist sugar into the gas tank.
- Bush drove the car into a ditch. Obama pulled out his copy of Das Kapital & called the Lenin Towing Company.
News flash for Chairman Zero and the Democrats in Congress: the car is not only still in the ditch, it’s stuck deeper and is more badly damaged than it was when you were given the keys. Beating on the American engine with Marxism’s hammer and sickle hasn’t helped.
And considering how you’ve been spending like proverbial drunken sailors (with all due apologies to actual sailors everywhere), you’re clearly not fit to drive. Those drunk on power and socialism have no place in American politics anymore.

Great post well said
How about, Bush drove the car in the ditch because the new Democrat Congress, in the back seat, was drunk and high on power and reached around and covered Bush's eyes while he was driving?
When the Democrats passed the minimum wage hikes, I knew it was coming.
[...] weren’t doing enough to “help” while he and the Democrat party attempted to a pull the proverbial car out of the ditch (translation — increase federal spending). Seems like the Slurpee’s on the other foot now. [...]
