Obama: Democrats losing support because America isn’t "thinking clearly"

In 2008, America was supposedly “enlightened” enough to elect Barack Hussein Obama as president. Two years later, when 51% of Americans now disapprove of his performance, he says we’re “not thinking clearly.”

At a Saturday-evening fundraiser held in the home of a wealthy Massachusetts hospital executive, President Obama suggested Democrats are having difficulties in midterm campaigning because Americans simply aren’t thinking clearly. Seeking to explain his party’s troubles, the president focused not on controversial legislation like national health care and the stimulus but on evolutionary psychology. “Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now, and facts and science and argument do not seem to be winning the day all the time, is because we’re hard-wired not to always think clearly when we’re scared,” Obama told the assembled Democrats, who paid $15,200 a person to attend. “And the country is scared, and they have good reason to be.”

Scared? You should know, Mr. President. “Facts and science and argument” aren’t on your side, you deal in lies and propaganda and demagoguery. Your Svengali “hopenchange” platitude has lost its luster. And your tax-and-spend policies have made a bad economy even worse. Now, all you have left is fear, anger, and misdirection to protect your Marxist “spread the wealth” agenda.

The rest of the country? We’re not scared, we’re angry. Angry at your arrogance, angry your condescension, and angry at your heedless march toward socialism despite We The People’s many efforts to tell you “NO!”

Bill S. over at Red State takes the president behind the woodshed over his numerous derisive comments against the American electorate.

And Victor Davis Hanson gets right to the source of Obama’s (and many Democrats’) disdain for We The People:

When America votes for a liberal candidate, it is redeemed by the left as intelligent – and derided as dense when it does not.

UPDATE: Michael Gerson “unpacks” Obama’s remarks.

Though there is plenty of competition, these are some of the most arrogant words ever uttered by an American president…

It is ironic that the great defender of “science” should be in the thrall of pseudoscience. Human beings under stress are not hard-wired for stupidity, which would be a distinct evolutionary disadvantage. The calculation of risk and a preference for proven practices are the conservative contributions to the survival of the species. Whatever neuroscience may explain about political behavior, it does not mean that the fears of massive debt and intrusive government are irrational.
