And now for something completely different.

Helen Thomas: Sarah Palin presidency would be ‘national tragedy’

Sarah Palin being elected president would be a “national tragedy,” the former dean of the White House press corps, Helen Thomas, said in a radio interview.

Thomas has been keeping a low profile since resigning from her columnist job in June after making controversial remarks about Israel. On Tuesday, she allowed a rare interview with a friend, reporter Scott Spears, that was recorded in her Washington home to be aired on an Ohio radio station.

“That would be a tragedy, a national tragedy,” Thomas said of the possibility of a Palin presidency. She called the former GOP vice-presidential nominee “very conservative, reactionary, unbelievable.”

In the interview, Thomas also described Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as a “hawk” — “I thought women in politics would have more compassion, be more liberal,” Thomas said. She also dismissed Christine O’Donnell, the GOP’s candidate for Senate in Delaware, as “frightening.”

Helen Thomas is calling another woman “frightening”? Seriously?
