Helen Thomas: Sarah Palin presidency would be ‘national tragedy’Sarah Palin being elected president would be a “national tragedy,” the former dean of the White House press corps, Helen Thomas, said in a radio interview.
Thomas has been keeping a low profile since resigning from her columnist job in June after making controversial remarks about Israel. On Tuesday, she allowed a rare interview with a friend, reporter Scott Spears, that was recorded in her Washington home to be aired on an Ohio radio station.
“That would be a tragedy, a national tragedy,” Thomas said of the possibility of a Palin presidency. She called the former GOP vice-presidential nominee “very conservative, reactionary, unbelievable.”
In the interview, Thomas also described Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as a “hawk” — “I thought women in politics would have more compassion, be more liberal,” Thomas said. She also dismissed Christine O’Donnell, the GOP’s candidate for Senate in Delaware, as “frightening.”
