A Look Back at Four Years of Democrat Congressional Majority
So much for that overhyped “new direction” Americans thought they were getting when they voted for Democrat majorities in both houses of Congress. Elections have consequences. (h/t: benhoweBLOG)
Charles Reichley explains why “change and hope” mean something different than it did in 2008.
Ronald Reagan asked, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” The answer today is not just no, but heck no. The past four years in which the Democrats have controlled Congress have been a brutal failure compared to the previous four years when Republicans had control. The Democrats want you to ignore this fact, but except for a few months in early 2001, they have controlled one or both houses of Congress for six of the past 10 years. The Republicans held a majority of both houses for only four years, from 2003 through 2006. Congress controls the purse strings, and it’s where the real power lies to make or break our country. And the past four years have been disastrous.
The deficit during the four years of Republican control was a brutal $1.3 trillion, but that is peanuts compared to the $3.6 trillion Democrat deficit. Unemployment averaged 5.3 percent during the Republican years, dropping 1.4 percent from 2003 through 2006. Once the Democrats took over, unemployment skyrocketed 5 points to 9.6 percent, with an average of 7.2 percent unemployed.
The stock market rose 45 percent during the Republican majority, and dropped 11 percent under Democratic rule. Under Republicans, home ownership rose half a percent, but dropped 2 percent with Pelosi and Reid in charge. Even personal earnings rose faster in those Republican years.
Meanwhile, the Bush tax cuts expire in two months, and Democrats won’t vote to stop the huge tax increase that will cripple our faltering economy. They’ve had four years and have yet to hold a single vote.
Reichley also has a lot to say about Obamacare. Check out the whole article.

UPDATE: It bears repeating; when Democrats took control of Congress in January 2007, unemployment was 4.6%. Now, after four years of their harebrained policies, unemployment is somewhere between 9.6% — 17%.
You’re doing a heckuva job, Dems!
