Congress’ approval rating hits all-time low 11%

Gee, I wonder why only 11% of Americans think Congress is doing a good job?

Gallup’s 2010 Confidence in Institutions poll finds Congress ranking dead last out of the 16 institutions rated this year. Eleven percent of Americans say they have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress, down from 17% in 2009 and a percentage point lower than the previous low for Congress, recorded in 2008.

The Gallup poll was conducted July 8-11, shortly before Congress passed a major financial regulatory reform bill, which President Obama signed into law this week.

Underscoring Congress’ image problem, half of Americans now say they have “very little” or no confidence in Congress, up from 38% in 2009 — and the highest for any institution since Gallup first asked this question in 1973.

Our confidence in our elected officials and our approval of the work they do continues to plummet. Yet they persist in ignoring our vocal opposition, instead passing “reform” legislation which seizes control from private citizens and places it in the clutches of the federal government.

So why do they keep doing it? Clearly, they must believe at some level that they’re doing a good job (despite the fact that we keep telling the otherwise in Town Hall meetings). So, in the spirit of an employer reviewing a troublesome employee’s performance, let’s look at just a few of Congress’ recent “achievements,” shall we?

Does that look like they’re doing a good job?

It’s time to give Congress their “evaluation” this November. It’s fortunate for them that we no longer allow tarring and feathering.

UPDATE: Mean Ol’ Meany reminds us that our Democrat-led Congress has actually had lower ratings before today’s numbers. Back in 2008, Rasmussen was reporting that the Pelosi-Reid quagmire on Capitol Hill pulled a 9% approval rating.

I still wonder how the House & Senate manage to score at all. I guess the margin of error must be between 9%–11%.

FMP, I'm surprised Congress broke double digits.

It makes me doubt the accuracy of the poll. Just sayin'…
