ABC: ‘Mostly Peaceful’ Immigration Protests vs. ‘Very Ugly’ Tea Party Rallies
A little over a week ago, President Bill Clinton scolded Tea Party protesters, claiming that their outrage against Congress’ unchecked actions could lead to violence.
“Before the bombing occurred, there was a sort of fever in America,” Clinton said at a symposium commemorating the 15th anniversary of the bombing. “Meanwhile, the fabric of American life had been unraveling. More and more people who had a hard time figuring out where they fit in, it is true that we see some of that today.”The loosely organized Tea Party movement burst onto the scene last year with thousands of Americans protesting financial bailouts and what they saw as too much government spending. Since then, the movement has become increasingly political as members are choosing candidates across the country aligned with their conservative views against lawmakers they want to defeat in the November elections.
On Friday, Clinton appeared to draw implicit parallels between Tea Partiers — who are accused by some critics of espousing racist and radical views — and the far-right militia veterans that carried out the 1995 attack on the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
“This Tea Party movement can be a healthy thing if they’re making us justify every penny of taxes we raised and every dollar of public money we spend,” Clinton said. “But when you get mad, sometimes you wind up producing exactly the reverse result of what you say you are for.”
This past weekend, the Tea Party movement proved his words correct by staging a violent protest, hurling rocks and water bottles at police.
Wait, scratch that. It wasn’t the Tea Party movement. It was “progressive” advocates for illegal immigration who got violent.
I wonder what would happen to me if I snuck across our southern border and protested Mexico’s immigration policies by throwing rocks & water bottles at their police? I’m guessing I wouldn’t get fawning coverage from ABC like these protesters in Arizona who rioted to show their opposition to law enforcement. Via Newsbusters:
On Saturday’s Good Morning America, reporter Mike Von Fremd downplayed the violence of protesters against Arizona’s new immigration law. He spun, “Riot police were called in to try and control demonstrators protesting outside the capital. Most were peaceful. A handful threw bottles at police and were arrested.” Yet, ABC derided March’s Tea Party rallies as “very ugly,” despite the fact that there were no arrests. In contrast, on March 20, World News host David Muir scolded, “Protesters against the [health care] plan gathered on the streets of the capital where late today we learned words shouted turned very ugly, reports of racial and homophobic slurs, one protester actually spitting on a Congressman.” Continuing to fret over those opposed the bill, he complained, “Late word from Washington tonight about just how ugly the crowds gathered outside the Longworth office building have become.”
Let me see if I understand the Left’s new narrative:
- Enforcing America’s immigration laws = bad
- Peacefully speaking out against rampant government expansion and excessive spending = bad
- Assault against police officers by illegal immigrants = good
Thanks for clearing that up, ABC. I was confused there for a minute.
Nope, no media bias from the dinosaur media. Move along.

UPDATE: For the record, the allegation of spitting has been shown to be false (if anything, a case of “say it, don’t spray it”). And there’s still been NO proof of ANY Tea Partier shouting racial slurs, despite Andrew Breitbart’s $10,000 reward to provide hard evidence that the N- word was shouted at Rep. John Lewis even once. With all the people and cameras around the event, nobody has offered any evidence nor claimed the cash.
