Another Democrat stuck on stupid: Guam might "tip over and capsize."

Posted 31 Mar 2010 in Democrats, stupidity

If this had happened tomorrow, I’d wonder if it was some kind of April Fool’s prank. But no, we really do have an elected representative that is this appallingly stupid. Via The Washington Scene: Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is afraid that the U.S. Territory of Guam is going to “tip over and capsize” due to overpopulation. Johnson expressed his worries during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the defense budget Friday. Addressing Adm. Robert Willard, who commands the Navy’s Pacific Fleet, Johnson made a tippy motion with his hands and said sternly, “My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.” Willard paused and said: “We don’t anticipate...

Under Obamacare, some Religions of Peace are more equal than others

The buzz around Twitter the past couple days has been that Obama’s new government-run healthcare law will exempt Muslims because insurance supposedly violates Sharia law. Sweetness & Light posted several of the fatwas which describe Islamic objections to insurance as well as the special provision on pages 273-4 of the recently-passed Senate bill: 18 (5) EXEMPTIONS FROM INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. —In the case of an individual who is seeking an exemption certificate under section 1311(d)(4)(H) from any requirement or penalty imposed by section 5000A, the following information: (A) In the case of an individual seeking exemption based on the individual’s status as a member of an exempt religious sect or division, as a member of a health care sharing...

Songs for the Tea Party

Posted 26 Mar 2010 in Barack Obama, teaparty

An interesting idea by @patinbelize, who pointed out that the lyrics of the song “Sunshine” by Jonathan Edwards fit quite well when one looks at where our country is heading. Sunshine go away todayI don’t feel much like dancingSome man’s gone, he’s tryin’ to run my lifeDon’t know what he’s asking He tells me I’d better get in lineCan’t hear what he’s sayingWhen I grow up I’m going to make it mineBut these aren’t dues I been paying (Chorus)How much does it cost, I’ll buy itThe time is all we’ve lost, I’ll try itBut he can’t even run his own lifeI’ll be damned if he’ll run mine, Sunshine Sunshine go away todayI don’t feel much like dancingSome man’s gone...

55% of Americans want Obamacare repealed!

America says “NO THANK YOU” to the crap sandwich being served up by President Obama and Congressional Democrats. Rasmussen has the numbers, and it doesn’t bode well for the strongarm tactics and big-government solutions of the leftists: Just before the House of Representatives passed sweeping health care legislation last Sunday, 41% of voters nationwide favored the legislation while 54% were opposed. Now that President Obama has signed the legislation into law, most voters want to see it repealed. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, conducted on the first two nights after the president signed the bill, shows that 55% favor repealing the legislation. Forty-two percent (42%) oppose repeal. Those figures include 46% who Strongly Favor repeal and 35%...

GOP Senators refusing to work past 2pm

Posted 24 Mar 2010 in Congress, Democrats, Republicans, wise quotes

Sauce for the goose. Did Democrats really believe that forcing passage of government-run healthcare wasn’t going to poison the well? Senate Republicans fuming over the passage of health care reform are now refusing to work past 2 p.m. — a tactic they can employ by invoking a little-known Senate rule. On Wednesday, the Judiciary Committee was forced to cancel a hearing as was the Senate Armed Services Committee. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) tweeted today : “Disappointed. Rs refusing to allow hearings today. Had to cancel my oversight hearing on police training contracts in Afghanistan.” Sen. Mark Udall also complained that he had to delay a hearing on the cause of Western forest fires. Making good on Sen. John McCain’s...

5 days, Mr. President?

Posted 23 Mar 2010 in Barack Obama, healthcare, lies

Transparency. Honesty. And unicorns. “When there’s a bill that ends up on my desk as president, you the public will have five days to look online and find out what’s in it before I sign it, so you know what your government is doing.” H.R.3200 – “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009,” passed by the House of Representatives, Mar 21 2010, 10:49PM EDT Signed by President Obama, Mar 23 2010, 1:33PM EDT Actual time: 1 day, 14 hours, 44 minutes

Barack Obama vs. Patrick Henry

I find it ironic and sad that President Obama is signing into law the Democrats’ government-run healthcare bill on the anniversary of Patrick Henry’s famous “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” speech. This can be no mere coincidence. Given the freedom-crushing nature of the Democrat agenda, I think it’s important to take a moment and read Henry’s entire speech. There are some strikingly appropriate lines, which I’ve emphasized below. (It should be noted that Patrick Henry delivered this historic oration without any notes…or teleprompters.) “No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the House. But different men often see the same subject...

"No More Kings"

“What’s past is prologue.” After yesterday’s disappointing 219-212 vote in the House of Representatives which ignored the 54% of Americans opposed to Obamacare, this Schoolhouse Rock cartoon is sadly apropos to where our country is headed under Democrat control. “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves & abhors is sinful & tyrannical.” ~Thomas Jefferson

White House issues executive order on abortion, Stupak buckles

Pro-life Democrat Rep. Bart Stupak seems to have agreed to switch his vote from “no” to “yes” due to an Executive Order from President Obama; an empty promise assuring that no federal funds would be used to subsidize abortion. House Democratic leaders have resolved the abortion dispute that stood in the way of passing health-care reform, and now appear poised to approve the legislation late Sunday. As part of the agreement, the White House announced that President Obama would issue an executive order on abortion after the House approves the health-care bill assuring that no federal funds would be used to subsidize the procedure. That was enough to secure the support of a group of Catholic Democrats who represent...

Over 25k gather in D.C. to protest Obamacare

(Photo courtesy of Michelle Malkin) WASHINGTON — Tens of thousands of protesters marched on the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, airing a wide range of grievances rooted in a shared sentiment: seething anger at President Obama and his far-reaching agenda. Led by a fife and drum corps in period costumes, the demonstrators filled Pennsylvania Avenue and swarmed the Capitol grounds with a sea of bobbing placards and hand-lettered signs that spelled out a catalog of dissent. There were antiabortion protesters and term-limit advocates. Critics of financial bailouts and the federal investigation into CIA interrogation techniques. Marchers who were worried about rekindling inflation and upset about the soaring national debt. Pickets opposed to Obama’s healthcare reform plan and challenging the legitimacy...
