Obama’s State Of The Union pizza
Obama’s State Of The Union speech tonight (transcript here) reminded me of the new “Oh Yes We Did” ad campaign from Domino’s Pizza. The one where they acknowledge consumer complaints about their lackluster pizza and pledge that they’ve now reinvented their product “from the crust up.”
But judging by many of the Twitter comments being posted to the #newpizza hashtag, Domino’s still has it wrong:
- “#newpizza tastes like a ball of jarred garlic rolled in a pile of sugar. You need to fire that head chef.”
- “new sauce sucked”
- “I am still paying for that #newpizza in heartburn, 48 hours later. That was SO not worth it by any stretch of the imagination.”
- “Dominos new pizza is disgusting. #imjustsayin”
- “Dominos new pizza recipe is to dip the entire pizza in butter”
- “Just had dominos new pizza, tasted like I ate 3 cloves of garlic. Brushed my teeth and tongue but the taste is still there. Urrrrrrg”
President Obama still has it wrong, too. And his formula still leaves a bad taste in America’s mouth, evidenced by the Democrats’ stunning defeat in Massachusetts last week. But unlike Domino’s, Obama’s answer is to foist more of the same on us and promise us it’s new and different. [Update: Jonah Goldberg sums up Obama's answer to America's complaints: More Obama.]
After a year of rampant spending, appalling cronyism, backroom deals, and megalomaniacal power grabs by the federal government under his direction, Americans are discovering that Brand Obama is not what they were led to believe.
But he’s not changing. And regardless of your feelings about it, President Obama used last night’s speech to tell you you’re about to get another great big mouthful.
He used a lot of the right words, to be sure. There was a LOT of talk about responsibility and security. But his actions—and those of the Democrat party—haven’t matched his rhetoric. Even within the State of the Union speech, his hypocrisy drowned out all his lofty promises.
He talked about cutting taxes and giving breaks to small business owners but flatly refuses to abandon Cap & Tax legislation which will further cripple our economy and add to unemployment by expanding government and increasing taxes on big business.
By the way, Mr. Obama, you keep saying “…we cut taxes for 95 percent of working families.” I’m in that 95% and there’s a big difference between a tax cut and a tax credit. You might wanna look into that.
The president brought up health care reform and — not surprisingly — displayed his famous arrogance when he described its current unpopularity.
“…this is a complex issue, and the longer it was debated, the more skeptical people became. I take my share of the blame for not explaining it more clearly to the American people.”
That’s right, folks, it couldn’t possibly be that the more you discover what is actually contained within the bill, the more you don’t like it. Nope, the real reason we don’t want government-run health care is because SNOBama hasn’t used small enough words so that we serfs can understand. Nice one.
I was also fuming when the president disingenuously said,
“But if anyone from either party has a better approach that will bring down premiums, bring down the deficit, cover the uninsured, strengthen Medicare for seniors and stop insurance company abuses, let me know.”
Ok, Mr. President, I’m officially letting you know; Republicans have had SEVERAL other approaches at health care reform. And the Democrats have steadfastly ignored every one of them. Check out www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare and start the dialogue if you truly want to reform health care instead of simply padding your legacy with a massive new government entitlement program.
Obama stepped WAY across the line dividing the branches of government when he openly criticized the Supreme Court for their Citizens United v. FEC ruling, striking down Congressional restrictions on political communications by companies, unions and nonprofits. It was his latest “you lie” moment, demonstrated when Justice Alito silently mouthed the words “not true” in response to Obama’s crass populism. [Update: Cato Institute's Roger Pilon nailed it with his post, "An Appalling Breach of Decorum."]
…the decision did nothing to upset law that prohibits foreigners, including foreign corporations, from contributing anything of value to an American election. Obama, the sometime constitutional law professor, should have known that. At the least, his aides had plenty of time to research the question before he spoke. This is just one more example of the gross incompetence or, worse, the indifference to plain fact that we’ve seen in this administration.
But it’s the breach of decorum that most appalls. By constitutional design, the Supreme Court is the non-political branch of government. Like members of the military, Supreme Court justices are invited to the State of the Union event, but they do not stand and applaud when the president makes political points that bring others to their feet. For the president to have singled the justices out for criticism, while others around them stood and applauded as they sat there still, is simply demagoguery at its worst.
I was actually glad to see President Obama invited Kimberly Munley and Mark Todd (the officers who stopped Fort Hood jihadist Nidal Malik Hasan) to sit with the First Lady. He then made sure to acknowledge his wife’s efforts against childhood obesity. But oddly enough, he refused to publicly salute the courage of the law enforcement officers sitting next to her or even address the fact that America suffered another terrorist attack. He spouted the obligatory “all of our men and women in uniform…have our respect, our gratitude and our full support…” but he couldn’t be bothered to thank these two heroes in the public forum to which he invited them.
That shouldn’t be too surprising, since President Obama barely even addressed the failed Christmas Day bombing aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 253. He talks tough about protecting America using hollow platitudes but won’t speak plainly about the threats we face. Probably because deep down, he knows that the political correctness promulgated by Democrats is chiefly responsible for our intelligence agencies’ continued failure to “connect the dots” in our fight against Islamic extremists.
There was plenty of populist talk about taxing the banks who took bailout money. But NO mention of taxing the auto industry he bailed out. Maybe that’s due to the fact that last year he handed ownership of GM to the union that spent $4.9 million to get him elected.
And he dares wonder why “We face a deficit of trust — deep and corrosive doubts about how Washington works that have been growing for years.”
The single most distressing thing I noticed in President Obama’s speech was this:
“The only way to move to full employment is to lay a new foundation for long- term economic growth and finally address the problems that America’s families have confronted for years.”
A NEW foundation? (Google it, he says this a lot) I’d like to know what’s wrong with having the U.S. Constitution as America’s foundation?
President Obama truly doesn’t get it. To go back to my pizza analogy; at least Domino’s had the courage to reformulate their recipe when it became clear their product was a failure. Obama, on the other hand, is doubling down on his unpalatable ideas and insisting we all eat more of them.
When you get a pizza you don’t like, you can simply order from their competitors next time and get something more agreeable. Unfortunately, we’re not going to be able to switch out President Obama for another three years.
Three more years of this nasty crust, getting moldier every day. Chew on that.

Obama's speech was classic Benito Mussolini. Spooky. Hope he doesn't suffer the same fate. See:

With Obama it is always Bush's fault.
The only thing to defend here, is the pizza. I tried it and liked it. The sauce was better and the crust tasted yummalicious.
Obama, I wouldn't feed his crust to my dog.
