Obama breaks 8 promises to televise healthcare deliberations

Posted 07 Jan 2010 in Barack Obama, Democrats, healthcare, lies

I guess President Obama just isn’t satisfied with breaking a promise, he’s got to do it in ways that match his “historic” presidency. In this case, he’s abandoned the promise he made 8 TIMES on the campaign trail: to make transparent the Congressional deliberations on healthcare by televising them on C-SPAN so voters can be aware of what’s happening. He’s actually gone so far as to meet with congressional Democrats and told them he wants to “fast track” the final health care bill to avoid public hearings and any Republican involvement.

Gee, I wonder why he’s suddenly decided that transparency no longer applies to his administration? Could it be that he realizes this bill is SO unpopular and detestable that there’s no way it would survive public scrutiny? The only way Democrats will be able to install their massive new healthcare bureaucracy — “death panels” and all — is to rush it past We The People without any public review.

Oddly enough, the buttweasels in the White House Press Corps are finally beginning to realize they’ve been had by Obama and his cronies. And they’re finally beginning to do their jobs, questioning the Kool-Aid being handed to them by White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. The result is some delicious schadenfreude:

On Tuesday, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs declined to answer questions about the president’s campaign commitment to hold health-care negotiations on C-Span. Gibbs said he had not seen a letter from C-Span’s Brian Lamb to congressional leaders requesting the coverage and thus could not comment on it.

On Wednesday, Gibbs was asked again about the C-Span commitment. The story had gotten pretty big in the intervening time, and presumably Gibbs had had a chance to familiarize himself with it. So reporters tried for a second day to get him to comment on the president’s commitment to holding televised health-care talks. Gibbs’ answer? “We covered this yesterday.” Gibbs referred reporters to the transcript of Tuesday’s briefing and said, “The answer I would give today is similar.”

But of course, he hadn’t answered the question at all.

Check out the transcript or the video of Gibbs’ pathetic tap dance where he refuses to even discuss Obama’s distressing reversal.

The Obama administration is blatantly stonewalling the American people and rejecting all calls for the transparency promised so often by candidate Obama. Is THIS the change you wanted, America?

UPDATE: You know things are pretty bad when it’s gotten to the point where CNN’s Jack Cafferty is now criticizing the President about his administration’s lack of “transparency.”

Gee!! well, I can't say I'm surprised. Obama is very much like Zapatero in most respects: both of them are mostly marketing products. The main difference between them is that Obama speaks normally better than Zapatero.

Transparency? No, it's much better to say what everybody wants to hear, such as "hope", "change", "peace", blablabla, than actually really give real hope and change to people.

Well, Obama generally speaks better than Zapatero…when he's got his teleprompter handy. Or when he's not on vacation.
