Obama thinks 10% unemployment is a GOOD thing?

Wasn’t Obama’s $3.27 trillion dollar generational-theft “porkulus” supposedly guaranteed to prevent 10% unemployment? Wasn’t that the reason we were given for passing that monstrosity?

Silly me, I thought 10% of America being out of work was a bad thing. But not according to The Lightworker. When all else fails (and it has), pretend that the worst economy since the Great Depression is a good thing:

Not long ago, an American unemployment rate of 10 percent would have been disturbing news at the White House. But on Friday, it was seen as an early Christmas gift of sorts, a bright spot in a challenging spell for President Obama.

Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said Friday that the president was pleased at the most promising jobs report in 22 months. But the 11,000 newly unemployed Americans, he said, underscores that the economy has yet to fully rebound.

“We’re moving in the right direction, but there will certainly be bumps along the way,” Mr. Gibbs told reporters at a morning briefing at the White House.

10% unemployment is an “early Christmas present?” Gee, thanks a pantload.

As someone who’s been unemployed/underemployed since January, I’m not exactly excited to be one of the White House’s “bumps along the way.” Guess that’s what happens to people under the bus.

No wonder President Obama’s Dec. 3 “jobs forum” wasn’t focused on job creation. Somehow, the president can’t seem to grasp why businesses aren’t hiring. Of course, it couldn’t have anything to do with money being so tight in an economy run by Democrats since 2007. And of course, it wouldn’t make sense to allow businesses to keep more of what they earn so they can afford to hire more workers. Nope, it makes much more sense to ram through a gargantuan new healthcare entitlement program and raise new taxes on businesses to pay for it.

Maybe our president is under the same impression that Nancy Pelosi had back in February, believing 500 million Americans become unemployed every month. So yeah, if that were true then 10% unemployment might not seem so bad.

Mr. Obama, you’re doing a heckuva job!

UPDATE: Oh, and for the record, the actual jobless rate isn’t 10%, it’s more like 17.2%.

The U.S. unemployment numbers are out today, and most headlines will show that the U.S. unemployment rate in November was 10.0 percent, down from 10.2 percent in October. That number is depressingly large, but even that under-counts the true number of unemployed. For instance, it doesn’t count those people who don’t have a job and have given up looking for one, or those who have found marginal part-time work but still can’t make ends meet and are still looking for a full-time job. [That would be yours truly. —FMP]

The government keeps stats on all of these “marginally attached workers” and people “employed part time for economic reasons” (rather than by choice). If you add all of those people in, the total unemployment rate in the U.S. is 17.2 percent, compared to 12.6 percent a year ago. The only good news is that number is down from 17.5 percent in October.
