Religion of Peace update: Hit-and-Run "honor killing" attempted
It’s time for everybody’s favorite game, “Guess The Religion.” Because you’ll find no mention of it in the AP news story.
PEORIA — Police in a Phoenix suburb are looking for a father suspected of running down his daughter because she was becoming too “Westernized” and was not living according to their traditional Iraqi values.Police say 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki of Glendale allegedly ran his daughter down Tuesday at an Arizona Department of Economic Security parking lot in Peoria.
The victim, 20-year-old Noor Faleh Almaleki of Surprise, remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
A second woman, 43-year-old Amal Edan Khalaf, also of Surprise, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police say the women are roommates.
Will the Muslim community also hide this scumbag like they did here in Dallas for Yaser Abdel Said, the 50-year-old Lewisville taxi driver who fatally shot his 17- and 18-year-old daughters for “becoming too Westernized?” I certainly hope not! Surely, wherever this man is, there’s somebody who knows who he is and what he’s done, and can do the right thing by informing the police.
To those apologists who will undoubtedly claim these kind of “honor killings” (attempted “honor killing” in this case) are cultural and not Islamic, I’d urge a little consistency regarding the darker side of Muslim traditions:
…Islam Said has said essentially the same thing: this has nothing to do with religion. It is a cultural matter. The Daily Mail glibly informed us yesterday that female genital mutilation “is not even mentioned in the Koran,” and the same thing can be said for honor killing. So that means it is an un-Islamic cultural practice, right?Well, it is not so easy as all that. It is interesting to watch Islamic spokesmen happily affirm that Islam encompasses every aspect of life, and then, when confronted by unpleasant aspects of the culture created by Islam, turn around and claim that such things are untouched by any aspect of Islam whatsoever. Well, which is it? Does Islam encompass all of life, and hence leave an indelible mark on the cultures of the societies that adopt it, or does it leave untouched large areas of life, in which pre-Islamic pagan practices continue?
Much is said about Islam being a “religion of peace.” And those of you who read here often know I take issue with that phrase because of the numerous instances where actions refute the rhetoric. I hope that this time, the rational believers within the Muslim community can root out the nefarious element which hides and flourishes within their midst.
