Bend over, here it comes again.
WASHINGTON – Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives released a healthcare reform bill on Thursday that includes a government-run insurance plan and imposes a surtax on the wealthiest Americans to pay for it.
Guess what? If you’re a legal American citizen, you’re one of “the wealthiest Americans.” Everyone above the poverty line will take it in the neck to pay for this grotesque expansion of government power.
The Democrats’ latest foray into Big Brother territory is 1,990 pages long. The actual proposed legislation can be read here.

UPDATE: In classic liberal fashion, Speaker Pelosi made sure the public was not allowed to attend the unveiling ceremony. I guess vampires like to feed in private.
House Democrats blocked the public from attending the unveiling ceremony of their health-care bill Thursday morning, allowing only pre-approved visitors whose names appeared on lists to enter the event at the West side of the Capitol.The audience at the crowded press conference included Hill staffers, union workers, health care providers and students, according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who thanked them for attending.
Mrs. Pelosi and other Democratic leaders announced the chamber’s long-awaited version of a health care overhaul, which would expand insurance coverage to 36 million uninsured Americans, costing less than $900 billion over 10 years.
Given the fact that the Medicare Trustees’ Annual Report released last year showed Medicare’s excess costs to be $85.6 trillion, does ANYBODY believe the Democrats’ latest healthcare scheme will remain in the billions?
Well, don’t worry that we were unable to attend their little celebration today, they’ll bill us for it soon enough.

Democratic House aides said party leaders had yet to resolve long-standing disputes over provisions to block illegal immigrants from receiving benefits and to prevent federal funds from being used to subsidize abortions.

UPDATE: William A. Jacobson, Associate Clinical Professor of Law at Cornell, has taken a quick look at the bill and immediately found “profound stupidity” contained in it, demonstrating how Nancy Pelosi, President Obama and the rest of the Democrats just don’t understand how business works.
The bill defines which businesses are subject to the health care tax based upon the dollar amount of employee payroll…This provision creates incentives for businesses to keep down payroll. One way would be not to hire anyone whose compensation would fall under the definition of payroll under the bill.
In other words, outsource whatever you can. Hire a software engineer in India, or ship manufacturing to China, or structure your business in such a way that you send 1099s not W-2s to the people who work for you…
The message of the bill is that whatever you do, if you want to grow your business without paying the health care tax, do not add employees.
