Four GOP healthcare alternatives vs. 1,990 pages of government takeover

Posted 30 Oct 2009 in Congress, Democrats, healthcare, media bias, Republicans

Throughout this entire closed-door process where the Democrats have crafted their underhanded seizure of America’s healthcare system, Republicans have continued to offer alternative proposals, only to be met with silence by the mainstream media. In fact, the GOP has offered three alternative health care reform bills so far: The three Republican bills total almost 400 pages and have been on the table since May and June. In May, Republicans in the House and the Senate formed a bicameral coalition to produce the 130-page “Patients Choice Act of 2009.” In June, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) introduced the “Health Care Freedom Plan,” a 41-page proposal. And in July, the Republican Study Committee, under the leadership of Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), unveiled...

Transparency, Pelosi-style

At yesterday’s press conference announcing the Democrats’ bill to takeover America’s healthcare, force individuals to buy government-approved insurance, increase taxes, and ration healthcare for all, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered Capitol Hill police to deny access to anyone not on her preapproved list. Hrmm, this sounds familiar. “Your papers, please.”

**Scroll down for updates**Bend over, here it comes again. WASHINGTON – Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives released a healthcare reform bill on Thursday that includes a government-run insurance plan and imposes a surtax on the wealthiest Americans to pay for it. Guess what? If you’re a legal American citizen, you’re one of “the wealthiest Americans.” Everyone above the poverty line will take it in the neck to pay for this grotesque expansion of government power. The Democrats’ latest foray into Big Brother territory is 1,990 pages long. The actual proposed legislation can be read here.—UPDATE: In classic liberal fashion, Speaker Pelosi made sure the public was not allowed to attend the unveiling ceremony. I guess vampires...

Barney Frank: "We Are Trying On Every Front To Increase The Role Of Government"

Posted 29 Oct 2009 in Democrats, liberals, socialism, totalitarianism

Don’t look now, Dems, but your ass is showing. Again. In a rare bit of honesty, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) slipped and admitted that Democrats are “trying on every front to increase the role of government.” (h/t: Real Clear Politics) This seems to fit a pattern. Over the past few years, the hubris of liberals has had them publicly admitting — and sometimes even bragging about — their socialist and totalitarian plans, which includes the growth in size and scope of the federal government. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel tipped the unscrupulous hand of the administration with his “Never allow a serious crisis to go to waste” philosophy, wherein catastrophes provide Democrats with “opportunity to do things...

Texas backs off of immunizing prisoners ahead of taxpayers

Posted 28 Oct 2009 in healthcare, illegal immigration, Rick Perry

On Monday, I was aggravated to read that the Texas health department planned to prioritize giving the Swine Flu vaccine to “those without a permanent health care provider or insurance” (including illegal immigrants and prisoners). Today, I’m happy to report that Governor Rick Perry has issued a statement that at least a portion of that statement is incorrect. Texas has not allocated any H1N1 vaccine to prisons at this time. Prisoners are not a priority group to receive the vaccine and will not be vaccinated ahead of the general public. Given the limited national supply, Texas is initially targeting priority groups most at risk. Pregnant women are one of those groups. There are pregnant women...

Krauthammer calls out Obama for "disgusting" attacks on Bush

Posted 28 Oct 2009 in Barack Obama, George W. Bush

President Harry Truman was known for keeping on his desk a sign that read “The Buck Stops Here,” signaling his accountability and his refusal to pass blame to others; he publicly accepted ultimate responsibility for his decisions and policies. It’s a pity that President Obama can’t seem to do the same. And Charles Krauthammer, in classic form, calls him on his gutless habit of assigning all blame to President George W. Bush.(h/t: Ed Morrissey) “I want to point out one thing about what Obama had said when he talked about ‘the long years of drift.’ There is something truly disgusting about the way he cannot refrain from attacking Bush when he’s being defensive about himself. I mean, it’s beyond...

Lichtenstein Halloween makeup

With all the crap going on in Washington regarding healthcare reform, here’s your mental margarita… TashaMarie posted some amazing photos of the best Halloween costume I’ve seen in a long time: a M·A·C Cosmetics makeup artist transforms a model into a real-life version of a Roy Lichtenstein Pop Art painting.

Government runs low on Swine Flu vaccine, so guess who get immunized?

The recent Swine Flu “crisis” is case-in-point why the federal government has no business getting involved with American healthcare. The Washington Examiner‘s Mark Tapscott explains: President Obama’s late-night declaration of a nationwide public health emergency last night shouldn’t be allowed to obscure the most important lesson of the developing swine flu crisis – The same government that only weeks ago promised abundant supplies of swine flu vaccine by mid-October will be running your health care system under Obamacare. But here we are five weeks later and news reports are coming in from across the nation of long waiting lines of people wanting the shot, but being turned away because of grossly inadequate supplies. The typical explanation from public health officials...

Tea Party tells GOP, "Put up or shut up!"

Dana Loesch gave an inspiring speech today at the St. Louis Tea Party rally. Watch from about 18 minutes in: (video courtesy of Michelle Moore) She blogged the event announcement on BigGovernment.com On Thursday, the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition called on the Republican Party to denounce the New York Republican Congressional Committee’s selection of über liberal Dede Scozzafava and their crusade against Doug Hoffman, bona fide conservative, backed by the Conservative Party. Tea party groups, frustrated after carrying the water for a hibernating party only to be ignored and attacked as “divisive” by certain GOP leaders, have demanded that Republicans “put up or shut up” when it comes to conservative leadership. Watch the video and check out the rest...
