Operation Hall Pass
Good news: here in Dallas, parents are getting active and voicing their opinions on President Obama’s planned “address” to America’s school children. And several Dallas area school districts are rethinking their plans, choosing instead to make Obama’s speech & accompanying indoctrination lesson optional:
- Dallas ISD: Teachers and principals in DISD will decide individually which classes watch Obama address.
- Plano ISD: Won’t show the speech but will put links to the video on its websites.
- Rockwall ISD: Might make watching the video optional in campus libraries.
- McKinney ISD: Viewing the video will be optional
There’s also been a movement organized to protest the politicization of our children: “Hall Pass on That:”
The Nationwide Tea Party Coalition announces “Hall Pass on That,” the alternative to President Barack Obama’s September 8th address to school children across the nation. The group asks that schools who choose to participate in the president’s September 8th program offer an alternative to students and families who do not wish to view, or have their children view, a partisan address or participate in activities that did not follow proper educational protocol or obtain parental consent.Dana Loesch, Nationwide spokesperson for the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, announced the launch of the Hall Pass on That website: http://www.hallpassonthat.com to provide parents who oppose the Department of Education’s proposed presidential program. “We are suggesting several action steps parents can take if they do not approve of their children participating in a partisan presentation conducted without their consent.” The four steps proposed by the Coalition:
- Contact the child’s school to find out whether or not your school is participating in the president’s September 8th program.
- If your child’s school is participating, ask what alternatives there are for the children of families who wish their students learn about the establishment of the country respective to the Founding Father’s intentions. Discussion can focus on the Constitution, the definition and actions of a republic, and the responsibility of elected leaders to their constituents.
- Ask if the school can excuse your child from the presentation and instead receive a DVD of the address and copy of the activity directives to be evaluated by parents at a later date.
- Request meeting with the school board, superintendent, and principal to inquire as to why parents were excluded from the decision-making process of this event.
According to The Washington Times, the White House is revising some of the language in the video address, specifically the portion where they ask kids to “help” the president. Once again, Obama overreaches and is forced to retreat after citizens catch wind of what he’s up to.
President Obama’s plan to inspire the nation’s schoolchildren with a video address next week erupted into controversy Wednesday, forcing the White House to pull out its eraser and rewrite a government recommendation that teachers nationwide assign students a paper on how to “help the president.”Presidential aides acknowledged the White House helped the U.S. Education Department craft the proposal, which immediately was met by fierce criticism from Republicans and conservative organizations who accused Mr. Obama of trying to politicize the education system.
…
The idea of adding a lesson plan to the package of materials being sent to schoolteachers was hatched during meetings between the White House and officials from the Department of Education. The lessons themselves were developed by educators, White House officials said. But some of the assignments, they later conceded, may appear to be inartfully worded without also knowing the context of the speech.“Does the speech make you want to do anything?” is one suggested question for the discussion. “Are we able to do what the president is asking of us?”
Kudos to so many parents for getting involved, and for holding the White House accountable.
