What’s Obama so afraid of?
Obama has unassailable majorities in both houses of Congress. He could push through any legislation he wants without a single Republican vote, and has expressed a willingness to do so.
So why is he now so seemingly afraid of Conservative dissent?
Jonah Goldberg has a great article that addresses much of what I’ve been saying all week: “Democrats’ Fear Is Showing on Health Care.”
The Democratic Party is panicking, lashing out like a cornered animal, all because its effort to take over the health care industry is coming apart like so much wet toilet paper.Nancy Pelosi, who will get her own bound volume in the annals of asininity, has outdone herself. When asked by a reporter whether the protests at various town hall meetings represented legitimate grassroots opposition or were manufactured “Astroturf” stunts, she replied, “I think they’re Astroturf. You be the judge. They’re carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care.”
Now this is a pas de trois of dishonesty, slander and idiocy. Not only is Pelosi lying when she says protestors are bringing swastikas to these town halls, not only is she suggesting that American citizens are Nazis for having the effrontery to get in the way of ObamaCare, but she’s also saying that the alleged swastikas are obvious proof that these protests are manufactured by slick P.R. gurus.
How does that work? What public relations genius says: “OK, we need these protests to seem like an authentic backlash of real Americans. Make sure everyone has enough Nazi paraphernalia!”
Meanwhile, Sen. Barbara Boxer insists the protests have to be fake because the protestors are too “well-dressed.” Likewise, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says this is all “manufactured anger” because the protestors — he calls them the “Brooks Brothers Brigade” — are too tastefully appointed to be authentic protestors. Apparently only filthy hippies can petition government…
The White House is asking supporters to submit the names of anyone who forwards e-mail with “fishy” information. “Fishy information” herewith defined as anything that serves as a speed bump for the White House steamroller.

Something else to consider in all this. With Obama and the Democrats in hyper-defensive mode, we should consider the tactical advantage we now have.
One of the things I’ve been trying to consider is Obama’s thought process. And in Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, RULE #1 is: “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.”
This tells us a lot. Obama thinks Conservatives have more power than he does. And that is likely true. But regardless, Obama is afraid of Conservatives for another good reason: he’s beginning to realize that he has awakened the sleeping giant, and that most Americans DO NOT want the Nanny State he’s been peddling.
We, The People are seeing through his hype. We, The People see that the Emperor has no clothes. And that frightens him.
He wants things to go back to his days on the campaign trail when all he had to do was give a soaring speech, make empty promises and spout liberal rhetoric that didn’t require any basis in reality. Now that he has to operate in the real world, he realizes he will be held accountable for results – and the lack thereof. He’s beginning to see that if his plans are enacted in a partisan fashion, his legacy will forever be stained with failure when his utopian ideas fall on their face (as history has repeatedly proven socialism and communism are bound to do).
So far, President Obama’s been used to the confident feeling that comes with being in control. After all, he did sell quite a bill of goods to a majority of Americans who were eager for the sweet taste of Obama’s hopeychange Kool-Aid. But now, the outcry of millions of angry citizens have shaken that confidence and shown it to be what it truly is: hubris.
The fear displayed by Obama and the Democrats this week signifies that we hold more power than we realize. We must continue to press this advantage! If we can defeat this ideological lurch toward communism, then we can work with reasonable Democrats to begin the hard work of putting America back on the path of greatness. And those Democrats (and Republicans) who refuse to adhere to the Constitution as well as the traditional American values of duty and honor will be cast out of office as their behavior deserves.
Robert Collier said, “In every adversity there lies the seed of an equivalent advantage. In every defeat is a lesson showing you how to win the victory next time.” We’ve had much to learn over the past 2 years. Let us know put that knowledge to the task of upholding virtue and responsibility, and the defeat of those who would replace them with dependence and shared misery.
