Laid off again
Until 2007, I had made it through 18 years in the advertising industry without having ever been laid off or fired. That’s pretty unusual, as this business tends to be pretty cutthroat. Then my luck ran out and I got laid off in April 2007. The next year was extremely difficult for me as I had to re-enter the market, networking and freelancing to make ends meet while I sought permanent employment. One of the agencies for whom I freelanced used me as a contractor for a year before finally hiring me to head up a new department. But after 5 short months, the agency is making severe cutbacks and laying off 20% of their personnel. My group got the axe today.
So now, I’ve been laid off twice in the past two years.
And it feels just like this picture looks.
Blogging may be light for the next couple days while I file for unemployment and get my resume and portfolio up-to-date to start scouring the market for a new job.
