Obama says opposing socialism is "selfish"

First, the Obamessiah accused those who disagreed with his policies as being a bunch of bitter, gun-clinging religious bigots.

Now he says that if you’re not on board with his socialistic ideas for income seizure and redistribution, you’re selfish, too. (h/t: Ed Morrissey)

“The point is, though, that — and it’s not just charity, it’s not just that I want to help the middle class and working people who are trying to get in the middle class — it’s that when we actually make sure that everybody’s got a shot – when young people can all go to college, when everybody’s got decent health care, when everybody’s got a little more money at the end of the month – then guess what? Everybody starts spending that money, they decide maybe I can afford a new car, maybe I can afford a computer for my child. They can buy the products and services that businesses are selling and everybody is better off. All boats rise. That’s what happened in the 1990s, that’s what we need to restore. And that’s what I’m gonna do as president of the United States of America.

“John McCain and Sarah Palin, they call this socialistic,” Obama continued. “You know I don’t know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness.”

The One can’t seem to stay on message. Wednesday, he was denying he’s a socialist. Today, he seems to be trying to twist John F. Kennedy’s “rising tide lifts all boats” aphorism into some kind of new Marxist proverb (in spite of the fact that Kennedy was defending tax cuts, not tax increases).

So let’s make sure we understand; wanting to keep what you earn is selfish? Because everybody knows that unless the government forces you to give your money to others, you won’t give to charities on your own, right?

But, as often happens with Democrats, the facts don’t support their ideas. To wit, Syracuse University professor Arthur C. Brooks did a study and found that Republicans contribute about 30 percent more to charities than do Democrats. In addition, he noticed a trend which seems to be consistent with Obama’s – and his supporters – collectivist beliefs:

“You find that people who believe it’s the government’s job to make incomes more equal are far less likely to give their money away.”
