Kaboom!
Today’s the day. Last call for alcohol, um, a paycheck and insurance (the alcohol comes later).
So I’m finishing up with packing my stuff and printing out samples for my portfolio. I’m sure this will wind up being a good thing for me, but it’s still hard to take for now.
A wise man once told me, “You wanna see your value to a company? Stick your arm in a bucket of water. When you pull your arm back out, the hole it leaves is the hole you’ll leave in the company.”
In other words, loyalty shmoyalty.
That’s what smarts the most; the appalling lack of reciprocity for my 8 years of hard work and service to this company. The bigwigs probably don’t realize, but many of the worker bees notice the recent change in procedure. I’ve already been, shall we say, enlightened… that despite the argument that our “management” says this is a financial decision, they still like to stay at Hotel ZaZa whenever they come to Dallas. Yeah, that’s some belt-tightening if ever there was some. It’s not just me being cut, either. My boss is a 9 year veteran here. I figured, since he’s a buddies with our Executive Creative Director, he’d be safe. But nope, he’s being cut, too. Nice to know it’s not just a personal thing here. It’s just corporate greed. Yeah, I know, surprise surprise. It’s just that for the past 8 years, they haven’t done things this way. It’s only after we merged with another agency that this kind of callous ugliness started to show its head.
And people are noticing it now.
Oh well, not like it’s gonna cause an uprising. Next week, nobody will even miss me. But at least many long-time employees here are starting to realize they’re not as valued as they once were. Karma will have her day with this place.
And I’ll do the Nelson laugh.
