Drop the charges against "The Dog"

Posted 30 Apr 2007 in pop culture

I can’t believe that this case is still pending. Now, Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff is taking on the cause of “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” Duane Chapman. Chapman went to Mexico several years ago to catch serial rapist Andrew Luster, heir to the Max Factor fortune, who had jumped bail and fled the United States. Chapman nabbed Luster in Puerto Vallarta and turned him over to the FBI. Luster, accused in over 80 rapes, is now serving 120 years in federal prison. But because bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico, Chapman was arrested there. He posted bond and was released, but now is wanted by Mexican authorities for jumping bail. Lemme see if I have this straight. Dog catches...

Redoubled efforts

Now that the move is over, I’m finally getting caught up on the past week’s news stories and events. And later today, I hope to resume some drawing as well. I’ve been itching to be creative and work on some new illustrations. And this week, I’ll be kicking up my job search by a few notches, getting in with a couple new headhunters as well as filling in my profiles on the big job search sites (Monster, Career Builder, etc). And, of course, getting my professional website updated, too. Hopefully, with a bit of extra effort, I can shake something loose and find a new job before things get really ugly.

I’m glad to see some anti-jihad backbone from one of the best Batman writers ever. Sic ‘em, Dark Knight!

More Things Men Should Never Do Past 30

This week has been another busy one, but it’s finally ramping down a tad. So to whet your appetite for some better bloggy days to come, here’s a fun post from a year ago…—According to Esquire Magazine, I’m in trouble. Of this list, I’ve found 5 of which I run afoul. But I won’t tell you which 5, that would take the fun out of it. Guess away. (h/t: Rightwingsparkle) 1. Coin his own nickname.2. Use a wallet that is fastened with Velcro.3. Rank his friends in order of best, second best, and so on.4. Hacky sack.5. Name his penis his name plus junior.6. Hang art with tape.7. Hang The Scream, unless he stole it from the Munch museum...

VTech backlash continues

Posted 20 Apr 2007 in hypocrisy

Since being fired last week, I’ve tried to take it easy for this first week of unemployment. And I’d be online more, but I’ve been working to help traci get ready to move. So blogging’s been a bit light. However… My good friend (and frequent commenter), Tirya, had an AWESOME rant that she sent to our local TV station. I wanted to repost it because she says in her letter almost verbatim what I yelled at the television earlier this week – but she worded it much better than I could have. Hypocritical much? Tonight, CBS11 did a teaser that had the voiceover of “Coverage continues… with the growing backlash over the decision to release the disturbing images of...

3 hours under the needle

Posted 18 Apr 2007 in personal, tattoos

Just a quick update. Yesterday, I met with my artist, Casey Cokrlic, to do the color on my dragon. After my last session, he had finished all the scales and added just a bit of yellow on the “whiskers,” so it was time to fill in the flames and get this thing wrapped up. We both had some grandiose ideas about finishing it in one sitting. And after 3 hours in the chair (my usual physical limit for a big tattoo area) I was surprised that I was ready for more drilling. But Casey had another appointment on the way, so we had to end it for now and schedule one more session for next week. After this one...

Vtech massacre brings out the vultures

It’s barely been over 24 hours since the horrific Virginia Tech shootings, and already gun control nuts are seizing the opportunity to use this tragedy to push their agenda. It disgusts me to see the New York Times once again discard their thin facade of objectivity when they see the chance to push liberal fascism. Yesterday’s mass shooting at Virginia Tech — the worst in American history — is another horrifying reminder that some of the gravest dangers Americans face come from killers at home armed with guns that are frighteningly easy to obtain. Our hearts and the hearts of all Americans go out to the victims and their families. Sympathy was not enough at the time of Columbine, and...

Time for new ink!

This past weekend was a fun one. In addition to being able to spend time with my daughter, it was time for the Japanese Spring Festival at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. So we drove over and enjoyed a beautiful day at the gardens, enjoying the traditional dances, demonstrations, and sushi. And I managed to snag a cool little Raku cup, too. Last night, traci and I decided to go out for karaoke on a spur of the moment. We had such a great time for New Year’s over in the “gayborhood” that we’ve been wanting to go back some time. And last night seemed to present itself. So there ya are. We headed on over the The Round-Up...

Democrats shun Bush, embrace our enemies

Posted 13 Apr 2007 in Democrats, liberals, Nancy Pelosi

Last week, we saw House Speaker Nancy Pelosi conducting illegal talks with Syria. And now, she’s interested in meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Seeing as how she’s NOT the Secretary of State and hasn’t been sent by President Bush, someone explain to me how this isn’t sedition? (h/t: The Jawa Report) U.S. CODE > TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 45 > § 953 § 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct...
