Pelosi teaches Duplicity 101

Sheesh, real life gets in the way of blogging again. Go figure. I wrote this one yesterday but am just now getting around to posting it. So here ya go.

As Nancy Pelosi became the first woman Speaker of the House, she wasted no time in dishing out the typical politician feel-good lies.

“I accept this gavel in the spirit of partnership, not partisanship, and look forward to working with you on behalf of the American people. In this House, we may belong to different parties, but we serve one country.”

Yeah, yeah, as long as you’re on board with her view of how America should be. To Democrats, bipartisanship means doing what they say. They’ve already tipped their hand, no matter what they say for the news soundbites.

Democrats are planning to largely sideline Republicans from the first burst of lawmaking.

…instead of allowing Republicans to fully participate in deliberations, as promised after the Democratic victory in the Nov. 7 midterm elections, Democrats now say they will use House rules to prevent the opposition from offering alternative measures, assuring speedy passage of the bills and allowing their party to trumpet early victories.

And, if history is any indicator, Republicans will either roll over or simply play along with them rather than viciously fighting as the Dems have done for the past 12 years.

Oh, and let’s not forget, as we’re getting ready for a 600 gallon enema of socialism, we get a nice little dose of rhetoric to stifle any voice of opposition. As I expected, Pelosi took a page from the Bill Clinton playbook, demagoguing with unassailable and absolute moral authority:

“This Congress is going to be about children”

Lord knows, you can’t oppose something if it’s “for the children.”

Funny, I would think that federal funding for abortion is about as far from “for the children” as you can get. Oh wait, I forgot, these folks choose to believe it isn’t a real person until it comes out of the birth canal and has the umbilical cord severed. It’s just an “nonviable tissue mass” until it breathes its first breath. Or perhaps they’re gonna use their turn in power to revise the definition of life even more. Maybe it’s not a real person until it’s been weaned? Or until it learns to speak? Hrmm, this might get interesting. I guess it’ll all depend on whatever makes it easier to harvest Embryonic Stem Cells. You know, the ones which have resulted in NO CURES of any kind. As opposed to Adult Stem Cell research which doesn’t require the destruction of human fetuses and has unlocked many successful lines of treatment. But then, that moves away from the Left’s sacrament of abortion. So never mind.

Pelosi’s San Francisco values are definitely on the far left fringe of American politics, and you can bet she’s not gonna be singing Kumbayah and listening to Republicans’ ideas on how things should be done. Nope, it’s a new day for them and they’re damn sure gonna ram it up America’s collective ass. Plus, they’re now beholden to nutcases like Saint Sheehan, who has already made it clear that the first order of business should be cutting off funding for the war as well as the start of impeachment hearings for President Bush. Yeah, that’s some good priorities for ya.

So let’s review the Democrats’ “new direction” for America:

  • More illegal aliens (and more tax dollars for them)

  • More entitlement spending

  • Higher taxes to pay for it all

  • More shackles on business (eg: higher minimum wage)

  • Cutting troop levels and military funding

Hrmph. A new direction, indeed. Away from national security and economic prosperity, right into the toilet. Hold onto your wallets (as if that’s gonna help).
