Gators win National Championship!

Dewey defeats Truman. Remember that?
That’s right, bitches. Sometimes, you shouldn’t count out the opposition. Last night, the Florida Gators defied all the oddsmakers to smack down the Ohio State Buckeyes and claim the National Championship. For the past month, all I’ve heard is how the Gators didn’t deserve a shot at the title, didn’t stand a chance against the undefeated #1 team, and how badly we were gonna lose.
Not. Even. Close.
It didn’t take long to quiet the yapping of the naysayers. After Ohio State’s initial score, we answered with a score of our own. And it was our game from then on. Coach Urban Meyer’s Gators proved their mettle. And by the end of the evening, it was Ohio State who should have been reenacting the Wayne and Garth “we’re not worthy” bit.
And to top it all off, the score was 41-14!! A palindrome victory! How great is that? I spent my evening sending text messages to friends, enjoying the victory well in advance of the end of the third quarter. Counting our chickens, if you will. But the more I saw the stats throughout the game, the more I knew there was no way we could lose. And as soon as the final seconds ticked off the clock, I had to phone my dad and share the moment (he’s a Florida alumnus as well).
It’s a great day to be a Gator.
Hard to believe it’s been 10 years since our last National Championship. All I have to say is, it’s about time. SEC Champs. National Champs. And this time, we’ve got the basketball championship as well! (We’re the first team to ever do that!)
All hail the Gator Nation!
