Illegal roundup? Yee-ha!
Ah, this does my heart good.
Feds Raid 6 Swift and Company Meatpacking Plants in Apparent Illegal Immigration Search
It’s nice to see we’re finally taking steps to deal with the illegal immigration problem.
When I first read the story on the train this morning, the article featured a large picture of a woman crying. The caption read,
“Selene Quintana, 35, struggled to tell her 7-year-old son, Abraham Sandoval, that his father was taken during an immigration roundup in Cactus, Texas.”
My first response was a big “wahhhhhh.” Well, that was my second response after noting how the paper was making sure to play up the sob story aspect rather than trumpeting a victory for law enforcement.
You don’t want to have to tell your son that his father is gonna be deported? Then don’t come here illegally! Fill out the paperwork and come to America through proper legal channels. Learn English, become a citizen, and join us! Otherwise, get the hell out.
I fail to see why we should pity these illegals. For one thing, they have no right to be here. They need to be caught and deported. But beyond that, many of the illegal aliens in question are also guilty of identity theft.
Michelle Malkin shares my feelings about the misplaced compassion of the press:
The New York Times, like many other outlets, runs a large photo of arrested workers’ families in tears. Not pictured are any of the hundreds of American victims of illegal alien identity theft whose Social Security numbers were stolen to enable the illegal alien workers to work.
It’s high time we get rid of these leeches and punish the companies that have been shielding them and profiting from their cheap labor. And let’s all buck up and deal with the increased short-term costs that are sure to result.
This may be too little, too late. Or it may be a start of the Bush administration’s respect for our laws and some sensible border control (I doubt that, but there’s hope). Either way, it sends a signal to illegal immigrants and those poised to come here and break our laws. Good riddance to those who don’t belong here.

UPDATE: Jihad Jay over at Open Fire has some good ideas:
In the meantime, build the wall – even put gun turrets on it for effect. Punish businesses for hiring illegal immigrants – I’ll take my chances with the Consumer Price Index increasing and my stock portfolio decreasing. Further streamline the deportation process and make it slicker than Presidential DNA on a blue dress. Deny public aid and service to illegal immigrants (excepting emergency room visits but not public education). Seek punitive action against Mexico until they stop exacerbating the immigration problem. When all of that is done – then come talk to me about amnesty and guest worker programs and subsequent requirements for currently illegal immigrants and guest workers to assimilate into our culture.
And to the pro-illegal-immigration people who choose to call me a racist over this, I have two words for you that express my sentiment in the most eloquent, intellectual and sagacious way: Blow me.
My policies are applicable to illegal immigrants from all countries. It just so happens that the bulk of the problem is related to Mexican illegal immigrants for reasons that have to do with the adjacency of two territories. For sure, I don’t see hordes of illegal immigrants from Tibet or Dagestan clogging our prisons.
