Churchill’s wisdom
The more I read about Sir Winston Churchill, the more I like the guy. He was a brilliant man whose words still hold a lot of wisdom for us today. I grabbed a few of his quotes that I think are particularly germane to our current situation, both at home and abroad.
- An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.
- Dictators ride to and fro upon tigers which they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry.
- I like a man who grins when he fights.
- You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.
- It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.
- Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
- I was only the servant of my country and had I, at any moment, failed to express her unflinching resolve to fight and conquer, I should at once have been rightly cast aside.
- If you are going through hell, keep going.
- Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
- One ought never to turn one’s back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!
- Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
- Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.
- Sure I am of this, that you have only to endure to conquer.
