Texas Tattoo Roundup 2006!
I’m jazzed. Today, traci and I are going to The 8th Annual Texas Tattoo Roundup. We went last year for the first time, and I competed in the large color competition but didn’t win. Still, it was cool to have my work judged by Gil “The Drill” Monte and to see work being done by a ton of famous inkslingers. I got a few posters and cool shirts as well as a very cool wooden Dharmapala mask (a Tibetan protector of the Buddhist faith). I’m very much looking forward to seeing new work, new artists, and possibly some cool new stuff.

Sadly, we weren’t able to get new ink at this year’s convention. There were some VERY impressive artists gathered there. But our funds weren’t. Still, it was cool to be able to watch the lucky folks getting new tattoos. And traci and I got nice comments on the ink we DID have (and her “I love dirty rocker boys” shirt). I was thrilled to watch Tony Ciavarro in action. He’s one of my favorite artists. We nabbed a few small items, including a very cool pair of amber plugs. But that’s about it for this year. There were several hard-to-find books I wanted to get, but they were about $100 apiece. Oh well. We’ll have to start a separate “tattoo fund” for next year’s show. If I haven’t already gotten the two sugar skull tattoos on the back of my calves by next November, that’s what I’ll get.
