Rangel pushes draft… again.
I often wonder how people like Charles Rangel get elected to public office. How can so many of my fellow Americans be so ignorant as to choose such a buffoon to represent them?
New York Representative – and incoming chairman of the Ways and Means Committee – Charles Rangel suggested this weekend that the draft be resurrected. Not because we’re running out of manpower in Iraq (and we’re not, mind you). No, he wants the draft brought back as a way to punish politicians who aren’t opposed to war.
Rangel Will Push To Bring Back The DraftA senior House Democrat said Sunday he will introduce legislation to reinsate the military draft, asserting that current troop levels are insufficient to sustain possible challenges against Iran, North Korea and Iraq.
“There’s no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm’s way,” Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) said on CBS News’ Face the Nation.
Out of one side of his mouth, Rangel claims we need a draft because we don’t have enough soldiers, and from the other side he admits that the draft should be used as a disincentive to prevent troops from ever being sent on missions.
What a ridiculous manipulation of the American people for the purpose of advancing the anti-war cause! It’s irretrievably stupid to want to populate the mightiest military on the planet with people who don’t want to be there rather than allowing it to be strengthened by those who volunteer to serve and make it the very best. A draft should be a last option, not a first choice. Not only has Rangel NOT learned the lessons of Vietnam, not only does he want to insure America’s defeat, but he also wants to make sure to emasculate America’s military for the future as well. What an asshat.
This is absolutely typical of Democrat strategy and thought. Well, I mean it’s typical for Dems to try to hoodwink people based on disingenuous emotion. But it’s not typical for Liberals to be in favor of conscription. Not historically, anyway. They vehemently opposed it during Vietnam. Recently, however, some Democrats are seeing that the draft can be used much like they like to use taxes: to punish the wealthy and divide America for political gain. If it furthers their class warfare agenda, then conscription is just fine and dandy.
This is not the first time Democrats have tried scaremongering of this nature. Don’t forget, Howard Dean and John Kerry tried to unnerve young people in 2004 with rumors of President Bush drafting them and sending them to die in Iraq. That’s some great leadership, there.
And Rangel is one of the chowderheads that the Democrats have chosen to lead them. Niiiiiiice.
Those of you who voted Democrat in the recent elections – whether because they’re your party of choice or because you wanted to register some sort of protest vote – you’re about to see two years’ worth of “be careful what you wish for.”
