Backhand the troops, backhanded apology

After the well-desereved firestorm over his “stupid troops” remark, Senator John Kerry finally came out with an apology. Well, something that resembles an apology.

I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended.

Translation: “If you were too stupid to understand what I wish I’d said rather than the actual words that came out of my mouth, then I guess I’d better use the word ‘apologize’ to distract you from how wrong you are.”

It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I don’t want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops.

Translation: “I don’t really want to apologize, so I’ll get back to undermining the President instead. Isn’t Bush terrible?”

And this is after three days of having the Democrats as well as the media make excuses for him.

Newsflash to John Kerry: we don’t accept your non-apology. Your gaffe showed your true colors once again. There’s no mistaking your contempt for our troops. And claiming that we didn’t understand what you said is a further insult to the rest of America.
