An inconvenient argument
While we’re still waiting to find out whether Former Rep. Mark Foley actually broke any law by his lewd contact with congressional pages (and it’s looking like he might not have broken the law because the page may have been of legal age of consent), I have a question for Liberals.
Whatever happened to your “it’s just about sex” defense?
What’s that? Ohhh, that’s just for DEMOCRAT perverts.
Like Bill Clinton, who had sex with a White House intern. In the Oval Office. The Democrats never called for his resignation.
And Gerry Studds, who had sex with a 17-year-old congressional page. The Democrats never called for his resignation.
And Gary Condit, who had an affair with congressional intern Chandra Levy, who was mysteriously murdered afterwards. The Democrats never called for his resignation.
And Mel Reynolds, who had sex with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer. The Democrats never called for his resignation. He was charged with child pornography, obstructing justice, and sexually assaulting a minor. However, it was not until after he was convicted on all of these charges that he resigned. (and was subsequently pardoned by President Bill Clinton just hours before he left office).
When it’s a Democrat, it’s “just about sex.” When it’s a Republican, then it comes time to demand resignation.

UPDATE: Antimedia is pissed off about this, too, and said it much better than I could. [emphasis added]
The Democrats cheered a Congressman a while ago, on the floor of the house, who admitted having sex with an underage boy. All Foley has done, as far as we know, is send suggestive emails and lurid instant messages. The Democrats have completely ignored the fact that one of their own was caught red-handed with $90,000 in his refrigerator, the ill-gotten gains of a bribe, video-taped by the FBI. Where are the calls for Nancy Pelosi’s resignation? Where is the outrage at the Democrats for allowing William Jefferson to remain in the House?
There’s no question that what Foley did was wrong. There is equally no question that the Democrats reek of hypocrisy from every pore. They are completely bankrupt and without any moral authority whatsoever.
Yet the Republicans cower under their accusations. What does that say about them?
It would be nice to have one leader in Congress who acted like an adult. It would be nice to have even one leader in Congress who had the courage to point out hypocrisy on both sides of the aisle. It would be nice to have at least one leader in Congress whose ethics were above reproach and who was willing to speak out, regardless of party.
