United 93 as analogy

co5.jpg I’ve heard it described that Muslims have had their religion “hijacked” by extremists. And that the jihadists don’t represent true Islam. As we hear and see more and more fanatics shouting in the streets and carrying out violence, that sometimes becomes hard to believe. Especially when there are many ex-Muslims who claim the brutality truly is part and parcel to Islam.

But let’s say for a moment that Islam truly IS a religion of peace…

If that’s the case, then our current situation regarding jihadists vs. the rest of the world seems to me to be very similar to that faced by the passengers of United flight 93. The jihadists are the hijackers, the crew and passengers are the rest of us – Muslims, Buddhists, agnostics, pagans, atheists, Jews, Christians, Hindus and every other religion on Earth.

How can we get to the point that we all agree to rush the scumbags who are holding us all hostage? What must we do in order to agree about our common foe and unite our efforts to stamp them out?

  • First, if these jihadists aren’t true Muslims, is there some way to officially “excommunicate” them for their perversion of the Muslim faith? Is there any mechanism for such “housecleaning” within Islam? If jihad and violence is a desecration of Islam, then these terrorists are apostates and must be put to death according to Islamic law. Why is this not happening in Muslim countries?
  • Second, if these evil jihadists aren’t true Muslims, we need to have something to call them. A name we can all agree upon (aside from “assholes”). Is it simply terrorists? Is it totalitarianist? Is there a Muslim term for apostate (Murtadd or Murtad Fitri) that they will be willing to call these radicals?
  • Third, how can we awaken the “moderate Muslims” to help excise the violent extremist cancer in their midst?

Or, are the jihadists following the true Islam and everyone’s just afraid to admit it?

    Either way, let’s roll.
