In a strongly worded letter to the semi-autonomous Tanzanian archipelago’s culture ministry, a group of conservative Muslims said plans to honour the lead singer of the supergroup Queen at a gala bash next month must be stopped. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is searching for five people who allegedly attacked a uniformed National Guardsmen walking along 138th Street in Parkland Tuesday afternoon. The soldier was walking to a convenience store when a sport utility vehicle pulled up alongside him and the driver asked if he was in the military and if he had been in any action. I was gonna blog yesterday about the one-year “anniversary” of Hurricane Katrina, but I’ve had trouble finding time enough, so it took me until today to get this one finished. The storm didn’t touch me personally, nor did it affect many people I know. So I view it from an admittedly detached point of view. That said, it’s not hard to see the extreme levels of tragedy and loss associated with the damage left behind by the hurricane. And the incompetence of the government at all levels. As expected, the media is downplaying the word “Muslim” when reporting on yesterday’s hit-and-run attacks by Ohmeed Aziz Popal. Yesterday, the story was all but buried. One person was killed and 14 more were wounded by this tardo, and the Media didn’t even cover it for at least 5 hours!! WTF? The only reason I had heard of it was because Hugh Hewitt was covering it live on his radio show. Well, rather than simply call out each instance as it occurs (since they’re summarily dismissed by those of liberal persuasion anyway), neo-neocon has a good post revealing how the use of “passive voice” in the news can be used to skew the meanings of headlines and stories, including a month-long study of Reuters’ recent coverage in the Middle East.
